(Senior) Congestion Trader

RWE is looking for an experienced congestion trader to add to the team. Your role is to develop and execute trading strategies in multiple US congestion markets, research and model market fundamentals and to deploy trading capital to make profitable congestion decisions. You will be managing, optimizing and maximizing the congestion revenues for our assets in the US. Furthermore, you will closely work with a fast growing team of energy trading professionals from diverse backgrounds. We are offering you the possibility of developing and building solutions to current and future challenges faced by the entire, globally operating RWE group of companies and implementing your own ideas in the process. We are keen to continuously develop ourselves and our services and to adjust them to widely differing requirements and situations. You will take decisions with the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize and execute congestion trading strategies and participate in ISO auctions for the short-, mid- and long-term, focus markets are ERCOT, NYISO, NE, SPP, PJM, MISO and CAISO
  • Optimize market channels to hedge congestion e.g. via auction, screen or OTC
  • Maintaining, executing and calibrating fundamental market models
  • Performing general quantitative analyses and econometric studies
  • Research, analyze and formulate opinions about changing market fundamentals and identify market opportunities
  • Work closely with various expert teams across the group (e.g. wind & photovoltaic developers) to verify your views
  • Ensure congestion risk for new investments are properly assessed at COD
  • Contribute to the continuous development and built-up of the Congestion Optimization area incl. review of KPIs, controls and IT infrastructure
  • University degree in Mathematics, Economics, (Electrical) Engineering or related field
  • Previous experience in electricity markets (e.g. in a commercial, consulting or similar role)
  • Experienced in managing and analyzing large scale structured and unstructured data using e.g. Python or R, familiar with SQL and data modelling
  • Experience in power market models (e.g. UPLAN, Promod, GE Maps, GridView, Plexos, Aurora) is a plus
  • Outstanding understanding of commercial dependencies and influencing commercial acumen
  • Demonstrate a self-confident natural behavior and is comfortable to handle uncertain (market) situations
  • Must be effective working in a fast-paced team environment and able to see projects through to completion
