talented and motivated Tax Accountant to join its Chicago-based
State & Local Tax team. The Tax Accountant will be responsible for
state tax compliance and planning, and will work closely with
teammates, business partners and third parties to ensure Kemper's
obligations are met timely and accurately and that risks are
appropriately managed. This is a fantastic role for a strong
performer who is looking to greatly expand their knowledge within a
multi-faceted insurance company (P&C and Life businesses) that
has exposure to GAAP and insurance statutory accounting. -Position
Responsibilities:Prepare and review premium, sales and use, and
property taxes ensuring compliance with state and local tax
lawsPrepare and review monthly reconciliationsPrepare and review
journal entriesWork with and advise third-party resourcesAssist
with state correspondence, inquiries, and state tax auditsEnsure
calendars and trackers are accurate and in complianceMaintain
Guaranty Fund complianceAssist with process improvement and/or
technology implementation projectsResearch and advise on current
tax lawsPosition Qualifications:1-2 years of experience in
corporate accounting.Familiarity with US GAAP.Experience in Workday
and Blackline a strong plus.Experience with Tableau and/or PowerBi
is a strong plus.Insurance / financial services experience is a
plus.Familiarity with statutory accounting principles is a plus.CPA
or MST preferred. Proficiency in MS Office products - intermediate
to advanced Excel knowledge. Strong communication and writing
skills and attention to detail.Strong analytical, organizational,
and time management skills.Progressive thinking skills, a strong
work ethic, and a knack for innovative solutions.Excellent
communication skills to interact with varying levels of management
and professional staff.The selected candidate will work a hybrid
work schedule which will require weekly reporting to our Chicago
