About the role
The Crude Trader will be responsible for delivering Latin American deal execution and origination for the Crude Trading bench, including negotiating agreements and complex structured transactions. This role will provide deal assurance, drive new and existing business growth, and require building strategic relationships to maximize value.
This position focuses on trading around and growing our Latin American business and supplying waterborne crude to our Cherry Point Refinery in Washington. It will also involve providing market insight, working with our Midstream organization to optimize refinery crude grade selection, and collaborating closely with in-country originators to support growth strategies.
Key Accountabilities

• Identify, develop, and execute an entrepreneurial trade strategy using relevant physical and financial instruments.
  
• Maintain dialogue with market participants and develop relationships with asset partners.
  
• Manage risk and ensure compliance with bp policies and procedures.
  
• Identify new opportunities as markets and logistics develop.
  
• Support long-term strategic initiatives and demonstrate leadership.
  
• Provide coverage for other books and support cross-commodity initiatives.
  
  Essential Education and Experience
  
  • 
    
  • Fluent in Spanish with business and commercial proficiency.
    
  • Minimum five years of industry experience, including at least 3 years in Latin American trading.
    
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
    
  • Extensive knowledge of crude trading and operations.
    
  • Self-starter with a desire to take on responsibilities and priorities.
    
  • Creative thinking and adaptability to change.
    
  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver results.
    
  • Experience in managing third-party relationships in Latin America.
    
  • Ability to influence and set strategy.
    
  • Strong teamwork and leadership skills.
    
  • Strong numeracy and commercial skills.
    
  • Authorized to work in the US.
    
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.
    
    Compensation and Benefits
    The base salary range is $187,000 - $244,000. We offer US benefits including paid vacation (120-240 hours), holidays, parental leave, bonus programs, retirement plans, health, vision, dental insurance, life and disability coverage, and more.
    Travel and Relocation
    Up to 50% travel expected. The role is eligible for relocation within the country. It is a hybrid office/remote position.
