Job Description:

Association Management Center (AMC) seeks an associate editor to assist in the creation of various digital and print products and publications, including e-newsletters, books, websites, and marketing collateral material. The associate editor serves as the main contact for one or more of AMC's smaller association clients. In this capacity, this role creates project schedules and manages to them, serves as staff editor, and fosters collaboration with other teams.

Position ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the publication of various printed and electronic products, including printed newsletters, e-newsletters, books, and marketing materials (brochures, program books, etc.). This includes:

  • Editing content according to American Psychological Association (APA), American Medical Association (AMA), and Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Managing editorial process to ensure deadlines, budget, and quality expectations are met.
  • Monitoring the daily progress of projects through the creative process, troubleshooting as necessary, and resolving issues along the way.
  • Maintaining consistent communication with volunteers, including authors, editors, and reviewers. Includes attending conference calls.
  • Editing and overseeing the creation of promotional material related to periodical publications and or continuing education events.
  • Proofreading page proofs and galleys and working with authors to resolve questions generated during the editing process.
  • Maintaining consistent communication with internal stakeholders from various internal teams.
  • Acquiring permission to reprint intellectual property (charts, graphs, content) from external sources.
  • Serving as a client resource for project planning.
  • Administrative duties including styling manuscripts and tables, correspondence with volunteers, obtaining copyright transfer agreements, and keeping accurate and up-to-date files.
    Required Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in English or journalism.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience copyediting and proofreading; working with authors and maintaining project schedules.
    • Highly organized.
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, content management systems, and html editing is a plus.
    • Knowledge of publishing processes.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Strong customer orientation.
    • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects/priorities. Ability to think ahead and plan.
