Job Description Job Description POSITION SUMMARY: Under the
direction of the Program Director, the Driver & Building
Maintenance Manager is responsible for the operation and
maintenance of the agency’s vehicles. This position will also
support maintenance needs around the building. The driver will
transport participants, employees, and volunteers to and from
defined destinations within the designated route(s) and to ensure
the safety of the participants while in the vehicle. The driver
will also ensure all logs, paperwork, and the routine inspection
and maintenance is scheduled and completed. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Drives the agency’s vehicle(s) that they are approved to operate.
Follows all rules of the road. Helps to load and unload
participants from the vehicle using either the stairs or the
wheelchair ramp. Plans necessary route(s). Responsible for any
equipment and materials used, including the care of the bus.
Reports any bus maintenance needs with Program Director, Operations
Manager, or CEO. Enforces all rules in a consistent manner. Handles
discipline situations with courtesy and fairness. Responds quickly,
intelligently, decisively, and in accordance with established
emergency and accident management procedures. Responsible for
submitting daily reports and logs to Tri-Town YMCA administration
office. Supports maintenance tasks and repairs around the building
to support a safe environment. Tasks could include vacuuming,
mopping, moving furniture, disinfecting surfaces, emptying trash,
etc. Attends and participates in staff trainings and meetings.
Maintains a positive relationship with all employees, participants,
parents, vendors, and volunteers. Demonstrates confidentiality of
participant and agency information. Demonstrates the capacity to
make sound decisions and effectively communicates with all
participants, parents, vendors, volunteers, and employees timely.
Responsible for the inventory and security of all equipment and
materials and working collaboratively with staff for the
purchase/ordering of equipment and/or materials as needed and
approved by the budget. Carries and knows how to operate a cell
phone in accordance to state and local laws. Supports a clean and
safe working environment at all times, including when appropriate,
the exterior cleaning of the bus. Communicates problems, concerns,
and changes in schedule to the Program Curriculum Coordinator.
Communicates any participant behavioral or disciplinary problems to
the attention of the Program Curriculum Coordinator. Supports and
embodies the core values and mission of Tri-Town YMCA. Other duties
as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must
have and maintain a State of Illinois driver’s license. Must have
and maintain a safe driving record. Prior bus driving experience is
a plus. Knowledge of safe driving practices and provisions of the
Illinois Motor Vehicle Code. Must have First Aid, CPR, and AED
certifications by first day of employment. Must complete DCFS
Mandated Reporter certification within first seven days of
employment. Must complete and pass a criminal background check
prior to start of employment. Must have the ability to read, write,
and organize materials in English. Must be able to supervise
participants and have safety awareness. Proficient ability to work
independently and with teams. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL
CONDITIONS The Bus Driver may work long periods of time inside of a
vehicle. The person must be able to lift, turn, and carry 50 pounds
at least 10 feet, and placing this load on shelves at chest height
so as to fulfill this requirement. May be required to work during
various weather conditions, including hot temperatures and rain.
Must have 20/20 vision or wear corrective lenses at all times. Must
be able to talk, taste, smell, and see (both near and far). Sitting
