Job Description:
About the Campus: The Woodlawn Campus of the University of
Chicago Charter School (UCW) opened in September 2006. It has a
three-part mission: 1) to assist students in developing the habits
of mind, work, and heart to be successful in college and good
citizens of their community; 2) to contribute to the community
through student research, service, and leadership; and 3) to
improve teaching and learning by serving as a site of professional
development for teachers and school leaders. Woodlawn High School
educates students in grades 9 - 12. Position Summary: Reporting to
the High School Director, this position will assist in the
implementation of a college-going culture working to support
student academic awareness and college readiness for students in
grades 9 – 12. This position will deliver services to all students
in collaboration with the college graduation office as well as with
academic and student life teams. It will also provide information
and lead services to students and parents to support overall
academic, career and student life development. With the use of the
Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, this position
will ensure that all students receive academic, social/emotional,
and college/career support. Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate and work to instill Scholarship, Leadership, Excellence
and Grit into the lives of all UCW HS stakeholders. Contribute to
the development of a school-wide college readiness climate. Conduct
individual, small group and classroom guidance sessions to monitor
academic and student-life development. Promote family involvement
through quarterly workshops, meetings, campus tours and
publications and participation with the FTCO
(Family-Teacher-Community Organization). Develop a planning and
recruitment process to engage and build relationships with
neighboring K-8 Schools Coordinate test preparations activities and
assist testing coordinator with the administration of school-wide
tests, such as ACT, Advance Placement, Illinois State Assessments,
quarterly assessments/diagnostics, etc. Support the Academic
Advisor with all student academic counseling and plans that ensure
students are set up for success. Assist and support grade-level
team leads around academic and social-emotional needs with the
implementation of practical interventions and supports within the
classroom Lead the school’s SEL curriculum by weekly monitoring
students’ progress, teachers’ implementation and facilitate
professional development for all stakeholders Participate in the
school-wide Care Team; Care Team is a group of clinicians and
interventionists that meet regularly to proactively address student
needs through the implementation of researched based interventions.
Analyze data to identify at-risk students, delivering classroom
lessons (Tier 1), facilitating group counseling (Tier 2), and
providing individual interventions. Under the guidance of the
Senior Director of College Graduation Office, support
Post-Secondary initiatives and activities that assist students with
their post-graduation needs and placement. Other duties as
assigned. Position Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required.
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate
endorsement. At least 3 years of proven experience working with a
diverse group of young people in a variety of situations. Previous
experience working with adolescent teens preferred. Previous
experience working with children from culturally diverse
backgrounds. Commitment to the success and achievement of all
students. A passion for youth and vision for their potential.
Proven commitment to professional development. Excellent written
and oral communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with administrators, staff,
students, parents, and community partners. Ability to communicate
clearly with multiple stakeholders. Experience using data to
monitor results. Technology proficient Salary Range: $55,000 –
$73,000 The included pay rate or range represents the University of
Chicago Charter School's good faith estimate of the possible
compensation offer for this role at the time of posting. The salary
will be commensurate of years of experience and education. Benefits
