Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Performs routine, emergency and preventative maintenance on material handling equipment (PIT) including turret trucks, order pickers, reach trucks, sit down forklift, power walkies and stacker lifts. Performs rack inspections in warehouse areas to ensure the integrity of racking. Performs servicing, inspections and repairs of batteries and battery chargers for all PIT. Reads and interprets manufacturer's service manuals to perform the necessary maintenance and repairs needed. As needed, reaches out to manufacturers for assistance. Maintains ability through certification to operate all material handling equipment and is a truck licensed trainer on all material handling equipment. Keeps maintenance logs and report on daily activities. Records routine, emergency and preventative maintenance into CMMS. Upon approval, contacts vendors to coordinate and schedule repair equipment. Orders and procures parts for all necessary repairs and restocking of inventory. Ensures purchase orders are submitted and approved. Identifies and submits suggestions to improve efficiencies, quality and safety. Actively participates in root cause analysis and other plant continuous improvement initiatives. Recommends and assists with implementing continuous improvement ideas. Complies with safety and GMP requirements. SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY STATEMENT Supports a culture of safe production and exhibits safe work practices. Actively participates in the safety program by engaging in safety activities. Effectively provides and accepts constructive peer-to-peer feedback on safety performance. Adheres to policies, procedures, SOP's, safe work practices, and safety policies and procedures. Reports ALL workplace incidents to supervisor immediately. Communicates concerns to supervisor, reports hazards, and provides input on prevention. Properly uses, wears, and stores Personal Protective Equipment when required. Participates on safety teams and/or completes safety-related activities as part of regular job responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and minimum of five years related experience (material handling equipment, electrical, machine shop, machine troubleshooting, pneumatics, hydraulics, OSHA standards, lock-out/tag-out, etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience on repairing equipment, up to and including swing reach trucks. General knowledge of electric, welding and machine shop required. Food or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred. PERFORMANCE ABILITY Proven ability through certification to operate, instruct, and repair all PIT vehicles and accurately complete paperwork and maintain maintenance records. Solid knowledge of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic skills necessary to operate, instruct, troubleshoot and repair all PIT vehicles. Demonstrated ability to consistently meet quality, safety and efficiency goals. Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills required. Good time management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task to calmly handle and complete multiple projects simultaneously and on-time in a fast-paced environment; demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and ability to work independently; and flexibility to change tasks frequently and work in different work centers as business needs require. Strong teamwork skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with others; strong attention to detail skills; and demonstrated high quality of work. Consistently follows all company policies and procedures, including all safety policies and procedures. Ability to work at the Roselle distribution facility and at both the 391 and 395 manufacturing facilities in Bloomingdale. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively to coworkers, supervisors and vendors. Good interpersonal skills required. Ability to accurately and truthfully complete paperwork. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills required. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to operate and maintain certification in PIT equipment. Basic computer (Word, Excel) and data entry skills required. Ability to work at multiple facilities (i.e. Bloomingdale 391 and 395, Roselle) and work extended hours, including weekends as required. The employee is occasionally required to operate a hand truck or forklift with a 24 inch step. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to go to heights of up to 26 feet. The employee must regularly lift, move (in some cases drag items), slide, raise and/or place: Up to 10 lbs. from ground level and hold weight overhead; return weight to starting position. Tighten and/or loosen a standard torque wrench up to 50 ft./lbs. Up to 33 lbs. from 5 inches off ground and raise to 47 inches and then return 33 lbs. to original position. Up to 60 lbs. from 31 inch shelf and 2-hand carry for up to 5 ft. and then return 60 lbs. to 31 inch surface. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to herbal aromas, dust, and/or airborne particles, some classified as allergens.
