Position Summary




This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced IT professional with the technological skills to own and manage the corporate IT function of a growing company in an exciting industry. We need someone who excels when given a strong level of autonomy and responsibility while maintaining all IT systems on-site and remotely. The ideal candidate will be highly knowledgeable and self-sufficient, with superior organizational skills and the ability to work with people of all backgrounds in all areas of the country with our hybrid workforce. At Terrasun, we rely on IT systems to support over 100 employees and contractors in North America. In addition, we depend on these systems to support employee connectivity to our parent company (in Japan) as well as all customers and vendor/suppliers around the globe.
This role will be responsible for analyzing current Enterprise systems and assets, recommending and implementing solutions and upgrades, and providing training to employees in IT best practices and systems. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of network maintenance, experience managing a corporate IT function, and advanced industry knowledge to keep us on the cutting edge. The IT Engineer will have an immediate impact on the day-to-day efficiency of our operations and a long-term impact on our overall growth. Day-to-day colleagues in our business can range from Hardware and Software Engineers to personnel in disciplines such as Sales, Marketing, Product Management, Project Management, Finance, Administration, Human Resources and Executives.




Primary Job Functions




IT Management
Manages all IT systems, telecommunications systems, processes, trainings and other related IT and Telecommunication items for the company. This includes but is not limited to the following:


  • Maintain essential IT infrastructure, including operating systems, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, mobile devices, cloud infrastructure, software, hardware and Active Directory.
  • Track and maintain enterprise hardware inventory and software licenses.
  • Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems administration.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies, hardware and software.
  • Analyze departmental needs, identify risks, and boost productivity, efficiency and accuracy to ensure optimal business operations.
  • Ensure network infrastructure meets business needs, utilizing their full range of capabilities.
  • Run regular system checks on the network, network attached devices and other related components to ensure optimal efficiency.
  • Develop and implement IT policy and best practice guides for the company.
  • Analyze, develop and update processes to provide optimal business performance.
  • Manage IT related budget(s) for the company.
  • Lead IT and enterprise cost saving initiatives.
  • Prepare cost-benefit analyses for all IT and enterprise related purchases.
  • Ensure all IT related vendors are providing our company with the best value for our money.
  • Onboard new employees with required software and hardware.
  • Train employees to use software and hardware; troubleshoot issues and provide technical support when needed.
  • Develop and execute enterprise level disaster planning and maintain data backups.
  • Execute enterprise level change management process and change review board.
  • Complete regular IT related audits as necessary.
  • Ensure all IT closets, equipment, infrastructure, etc. are maintained and organized professionally and are in a show-case ready state at all times.
  • Work closely with the companies Security Architect to ensure all IT and Telecommunication systems, hardware, software, etc. are in compliance with security policies.
  • Assist in all security audits as necessary.
  • Work closely with the companies Office Manager and HR Coordinator to provide full IT and Telecommunications support to employees & contractors.
  • Manage corporate IT needs when moving offices and transitioning into a new office space/building.

    Other

    • Performs other miscellaneous IT related duties as requested.
    • Seeks constant improvement, more efficient and less expensive ways and means in work processes.
    • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
    • Performs special projects and other miscellaneous duties as required.
    • Maintains high ethical standards in the work-place.
    • Reports all irregular issues and problems to supervisors for solution.
    • Maintains good communication with other management, office staff members and outside contacts.
    • Complies with all company policies and procedures.
    • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working area.





      Job Dimensions (skills, knowledge & abilities)

      • Five or more years of experience in IT engineering.
      • Deep knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux and MacOS), SaaS applications, applications (ex: Active Directory, AzureAD, AWS, Intune, Jamf, Microsoft365), current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, networking, ITSM, Splunk and systems performance monitoring.
      • Expertise in implementing, configuring, and testing IT solutions.
      • Strong creative and analytical thinking.
      • Strong Organizational Skills.

        Qualifications (Education & Work Experience)

        • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in information technology or computer science.
        • Professional certification in Windows, Cloud, Infrastructure or Project Management are a plus, but not required.

          Tools & Equipment

          • All office-based IT equipment and related infrastructure.
          • General office equipment including phones, personal computers, printers, etc.

            Certificates/Licenses

            • Quality Management certification preferred but not required.
            • Industry certifications for testing and inspection as required to review and certify that the test, inspection and procedures satisfy requirements.

              Work Environment & Physical Demands

              • Work is performed in an office environment in Chicago, IL
              • Expectations are to be present in the office at least 3 days a week. This may be extended to 5 days a week when business requirements demand this level of support.
              • On occasion, travel to a customer project site or supplier facility may be necessary to support integration of our systems with theirs. Visits to a customer project site will require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), provided by the company.
              • On occasion able to lift server equipment not more than 15 lbs.
