Job Description:
Major Responsibilities:
- Operates, monitors, and performs preventive maintenance on
high-pressure boilers, boiler auxiliaries, and other related
mechanical/ life safety equipment.
- Inspects equipment for malfunctions and makes adjustments or
repairs to restore the equipment to operating condition.
- Maintains the boiler and auxiliaries' specified pressures and
temperatures. Maintains prescribed chemical concentrations in
boilers and auxiliary equipment.
- Observes meters and gauges to determine operating conditions of
equipment and to regulate flow of water, fuel, steam pressure, and
oxygen in accordance with needs and safety standards.
- Performs installation and repair of minor piping, structural
and electrical systems.
- Operates, monitors, and maintains automated building and
equipment control systems.
- Computes job costs and order parts, equipment, supplies, and
materials.
- Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records
and equipment repair files in order to comply with local, state and
federal regulatory requirements.
- May assist in construction, remodeling and maintenance
projects.Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Forth Class Power Engineer certification issued by the National
Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers, Inc.
(NIULPE), or
- Facility Operating Engineer - First Class certification issued
by the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE), or
- Facility Operating Engineer - Second Class certification issued
by the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE), or
- Power Plant Operating Engineer Third Class issued By The
American Society of Power Engineers, Inc (ASOPE)., or
- Mechanic Education and Certification for Healthcare (MECH)
issued by the Wisconsin Healthcare Engineering Association (WHEA),
or
- Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification issued by the
United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and
- A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor
Vehicles.Education Required:
- Associate's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Power
Engineering & Boiler Op.Experience Required:
- Typically requires 2 years of experience in power plant
operations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Employees working in the City of Milwaukee must obtain a
Stationary Engineer's permit to operate within one year of
hire.
- Current driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety
standards.
- Knowledge of applicable codes/regulations pertaining to
assigned equipment and operations
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to problem
solve.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand and walk about 60% of the workday as well
as climb and reach above shoulders.
- Must be able to:
- lift up to 15 lbs. from floor to overhead.
- lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest-level.
- lift and carry up to 50 lbs. at waist height a reasonable
distance.
- Must be able to:
- push/pull with 50 lbs. of force.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and
radiation hazards. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment
must be worn as necessary.
- Temperature in working environment varies from (-10) to 120
degrees and atmosphere often contains fumes, odors and dust.
- Position requires travel. May be exposed to road and weather
hazards.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.This job
