This Director is responsible for developing programs that support the continued professional development and improvement of nursing practice and nurse employee satisfaction as measured by engagement scores across all Ambulatory Cancer Services nursing functional areas. - At the University of Chicago Medicine, everyone on our cancer team is focused on providing comprehensive, compassionate care. We offer supportive oncology care, from cancer nutrition and mental health services to social work and smoking cessation programs, at our main location in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, as well as in Harvey at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital. - -In this role you will develop a network of relationships with physician and other leaders to foster an environment of collaboration. You will be responsible for developing and implementing nationally approved standards and guidelines for system-wide outpatient oncology nursing, aligning with the nursing care delivery model while maximizing the talent and capabilities of UCM nursing personnel. The Director role ensures nursing consistency across Ambulatory oncology clinics and represents Ambulatory Cancer Services nursing professional practice within the Medical Center. You will also be responsible for developing programs that support the continued professional development and improvement of nursing practice and nurse employee satisfaction as measured by engagement scores across all Ambulatory Cancer Services nursing functional areas. - -The Director will maintain standards of the practice of nursing as defined by the America Nurses Association Code of Ethics, Nursing Scope, and Standards of Practice. The role ensures quality compassionate, culturally competent, effective, and efficient patient care. -Who you are: - - -A dynamic collaborative nursing leader who is comfortable supporting the growth of their employees while maintaining our exceptional patient care -with: -

• BSN and MSN or advanced degree in healthcare related field in lieu of MSN.
• Oncology nursing experience.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in the nursing field including responsibility for managing multiple, large patient care areas and prior management responsibility of ambulatory oncology care settings.
• Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred.
• Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• National nursing certification strongly preferred. Must sit for a national nursing certification within 12 months of eligibility.

    • You will develop and monitor nursing and clinical care standards at UChicago Medicine's integrated network of cancer providers and affiliated cancer programs, including oncology outreach clinic locations, joint cancer ventures, and private oncology practices in the cancer network.
    • You will lead clinical program and nursing project management for the cancer network, including planning, executing, and evaluating projects.
    • Monitor the performance of cancer network nursing-related and patient care activities and provides related timely reports, analyses, and recommendations for improvement.
    • Collaborate with cancer service line, hospital, and the university's Biological Sciences Division administrative and clinical leadership to develop and sustain high-quality value-based care models that support quality and patient safety and support strategic growth plan for cancer services.
    • Hold the responsibility of matrix managing of the oncology nursing staff across all Ambulatory Cancer Services locations to ensure appropriate levels of care and development and maintenance of standards of cancer care aligned to nationally recognized standards (i.e., QOPI, OCN, ASCO, JCAHO, etc.). Additionally monitoring compliance with state and other governing bodies, JCAHO and other regulatory agencies as well as oversee the preparation of information needed to assure compliance. -
    • You will advise medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to cancer nursing services and makes recommendations to further align standards to the care model. This will include developing and improving upon methods needed to communicate Ambulatory Cancer Services nursing care model approaches and protocols.
    • You will work with the Executive Director of Cancer Nursing and other nursing and administrative leaders, ensures that communications align all areas across UChicago Medicine nursing. As well as serve as a resource to management and staff about the delivery of oncology nursing care.
    • Collaborate with clinical trials and research leaders to fully integrate Cancer Network and UChicago Medicine clinical trials nursing practices and partner with clinical team to standardize policies and procedures to implement care pathways, QOPI, and standardized chemotherapy plans across all ambulatory cancer clinical areas and locations.
    • Facilitate work groups for organizational effectiveness projects which use standard work and LEAN principles to drive continuous process improvement.
    • You will be responsible for leading, developing and managing the performance of all direct reports. Promote teamwork, collaboration and integration across Ambulatory Cancer Services nursing and other areas.
    • Select, orient, train, develop, and assign work to nursing staff. Develop standards of, evaluate, and provide any necessary developmental actions as needed for Ambulatory Cancer Services nursing leaders.
    • Determine your own professional needs through ongoing self-assessment and evaluation of total role performance and assume responsibility for meeting those needs and maintaining skill in clinical/professional specialty area.
