Join a world-class academic healthcare system, -UChicago Medicine, as a -Program Director, Design & Construction. - We are seeking visionary leaders to focus on scope, schedule, budget, and quality for our new Cancer Center, as well as our expansion into Northwest Indiana. -
UChicago Medicine has committed to a 575,000 square feet, $800 million freestanding facility dedicated to cancer care and research in Chicago. -The excitement does not stop there! -UChicago Medicine is also building a large 124,400 square foot location in Crown Point, Indiana, to provide multispecialty care in a micro-hospital with an emergency department and short-stay inpatient unit. We need dynamic and capable Program Directors for both projects to be responsible for the transformation and development of operations, move planning, workflow coordination and communication. These are project-based roles scheduled to run through 2027 where you can leave your professional mark on high profile new construction.
Reporting to the Executive Program Director of Capital Projects, these Program Directors are strategic business partners who will work closely with the Hub Director, Project Managers, external project consultants, department administrators, managers, and hospital leadership to ensure efforts are aligned and all deliverables and milestones are met. The chosen candidates will provide strategic leadership to ensure successful execution from inception to closeout. -

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field required. - Master Degree preferred.
  • Prior experience managing high profile, large projects in a hospital or healthcare environment is highly desirable.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of space functionality and validate how it supports planned operations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to speak articulately in high-level forums and to answer difficult questions with confidence.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills to manage large projects and work effectively in multidisciplinary groups.
  • Ability to problem-solve and function well in a deadline-driven environment while demonstrating the ability to receive and decipher information clearly and concisely.
  • High degree of computer competency, including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, and schedule programs; including Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, and Project Management software applications such as MS Project.

      What you'll do as the Program Director, Design & Construction:

      • Plan operations, workflow development, equipment confirmation and coordination, departmental communication, training, and future state work planning for Cancer Center and/or Northwest Indiana projects.
      • Participate in Planning meetings, Operational Excellence events, development of standard work and departmental readiness efforts.
      • Work collaboratively with operations to ensure that space functionality is optimal.
      • Organize operations planning teams and convene group efforts related to the development of policies, procedures, and workflow, which may include the following:


        • scope of services, standards of care, regulatory requirements, performance metrics/targets, departmental floor plans, room layouts, furniture plans, supply plans, medical equipment plans, staffing plans, workflow diagrams, procedural narratives, training plans, budget, communication plans, transition plans, migration plans, and patient move plans.


          • Actively manage human, capital, and operational resources to support projects valued in the millions.
          • Manage the complexities of the specifications, design, construction, equipment, regulatory, and activation of these projects and act as department liaison and move captain for all move-related activities.
          • Support operational and equipment planning, departmental preparation and training, and move readiness and transition support for all departments impacted by the projects.
          • Coordinate the work of internal resources, as well as consultants and contractors to develop and meet schedule milestones.
          • Support the functions of the Executive Program Director and the project team and assist in informing and reporting out on schedule and budgetary milestones to UChicago Medicine leadership.
          • Support for other Strategic and Capital projects.


            • Demonstrate personal leadership qualities and business acumen essential to operate effectively within the institution.
            • Foster efforts to positively impact the organization's visibility, image, and relationship with its surrounding community. -

                As part of the leadership team, this position will be instrumental in reinforcing and sustaining UChicago Medicine's E4 Leadership Culture.
                Must comply with UCMC's COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process. This is in addition to your compliance with the Flu Vaccination requirement as well.
