Manager position manages and coordinates the day to day operations
of the Facilities Department.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Manage the facilities department, assigning work and projects,
training staff, monitoring project progress, ordering supplies, and
conducting quality assessments of work
- Develop and create new habitat structures or enrichment for
animals as directed by the animal care team
- Plan and coordinate work that occurs in all areas of the zoo
including in animal areas
- Coordinate with animal care to schedule work so as to be least
disruptive to animals
- Monitor budgetary expenditures for accounts and projects
administered by the operations department (e.g. prepares purchase
orders, check requests, tracks and verifies expenses, tracks and
files invoices, etc.)
- Assist with the in-house work order system, tracking work
progress, updating the asset inventory
- Manage external vendors and contracts for various construction
and maintenance projectsADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as assignedKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of construction and construction project
management
- Knowledge of architectural design and familiarity with
architectural drawings preferred
- Knowledge of design estimation (i.e. signage, concrete,
building materials, exhibit materials)
- General knowledge of carpentry, painting, plumbing, building,
etc.
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate all specialized
equipment used to move and lift supplies such as hand trucks,
electric cart, fork lift, bobcat, motorized pallets jacks, power
tools and others
- Ability to safely and efficiently use a variety of hand
tools
- Sound shop organizational skills including maintaining shop
inventory and cleanliness
- Thorough knowledge of PCs, using word processing, spreadsheet
and database software, esp. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power
Point, Access) and SharePoint or similar content management
systems
- Thorough knowledge of and ability to communicate and be
understood in business English
- Ability to manage a team. Well-developed interpersonal skills.
Ability to get along with diverse groups.
- Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
- Ability to organize tasks and time to ensure timely completion
of all projects
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written
directions
- Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with
supervisors, fellow employees, volunteers, contractors, zoo
visitors, and general public
- Thorough knowledge of the zoo's mission and philosophyEDUCATION
REQUIREMENTSEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTSSeven to ten years performing
complex and responsible support duties in a construction
management, general contractor, engineering, architecture, or
trades firm. Experience with building design, architectural,
renovation, and construction practices.Bilingual in English and
Spanish is preferred.Note: A comparable combination of education,
experience or training that would provide the level of knowledge,
skills and ability required may qualify an individual.PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work in open office environment.
- Ability to traverse zoo grounds to conduct tours, respond to
emergencies
- Must be physically able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force on a
regular basis to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move
objects.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is
regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and work on
ladders or scaffolding.
- The employee will be exposed frequently to outside, potentially
adverse, weather conditions.
- The employee will be regularly exposed to water, solvents, and
potentially loud noises.
- Ability to exercise safe work habits in proximity of
potentially dangerous animals and equipment
- Risk exposure to fairly predictable and controllable hazards
associated with wild animals and zoonotic diseasesADDITIONAL
REQUIREMENTSAvailable to work special events that may occur outside
of regular work schedule, including evenings, weekends or holidays,
as assigned.Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination and
non-infectious TB status.SALARY$75,000 annuallyLincoln Park Zoo is
