Manager of Community Asset BuildingThe Strategic Relationships and Community Planning team works cross-functionally to lead the development and implementation of strategic community building and relationship plans in Cook County. This team ensures that activities executed at the community-level are in alignment with community voice and Food Depository strategy by collaborating bi-directionally with partners and other functions in the Community Impact and Policy and Advocacy Departments.
The Manager of Community Asset Building will play a critical role in advancing the mission and vision of the Food Depository by addressing the issues affecting the well-being of Cook County community members. The Manager will implement strategies to engage individuals, groups, and organizations in our work, building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring that our programs and initiatives are responsive to the needs and interests of each community.
The Manager of Community Asset building will work cross-departmentally to support the organization/s mission of ending hunger. They will work collaboratively to ensure that community input and feedback is incorporated into the organization/s decision-making processes. The Manager will also support efforts to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of community and population-level organization plans, centering a racial equity and asset-focused approach.
The Manager of Community Asset Building will serve as an ambassador for the organization, representing us in public forums, cultivating partnerships, and advocating for our work in the community.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
In this role, the Manager of Community Asset Building will:


  • Serve as a community/population landscape expert within Cook County with knowledge of trusted community stakeholders, community organizations, faith institutions, and other organizations that are participating in meaningful impact and outcomes for the communities they serve.
  • Share key learnings and partnership opportunities that are aligned with overall community/population-level strategy with internal teams, including power-sharing opportunities, root cause work, and emerging issues and assets in target community areas.
  • Maintain an understanding of the Food Depository's community and population-level organizing plans, and of key activities and engagements within assigned partner relationship portfolio.
  • Support an asset-based approach to community capacity building across functions.
  • Monitor and track the community or population-specific capacity-building strategies implemented at the Food Depository.
  • Support the process of new partnership requests and existing partnership expansions based on community need and co-developed strategy.
  • Support granting processes for new and existing partners with the lens of power sharing and community asset building.
  • Implement community advocacy mobilization strategies and activities in collaboration with the Policy and Advocacy team.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community-based organizations, faith-based institutions, schools, government agencies and businesses.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure that programs and initiatives are designed to meet the needs of the community, and that they are accessible and culturally responsive.
  • Support the implementation of emerging opportunities to advance strategy in community.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Strong team collaborator with an ability to support the organization's core values
    • High level of interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation) including clear, persuasive, and dynamic communication in individual, small group, and large audience settings
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fluid environment, meet multiple concurrent deadlines, and organize time and priorities
    • Demonstrated success in implementing community engagement strategies, including outreach, community organizing and stakeholder engagement
    • Strong customer service orientation and demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations
    • Knowledge of the food security landscape and/or experience working with partners and programs within Cook County and across Illinois preferred.
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications, as well as the ability to quickly learn new software programs and online platforms

      Exposure:

      • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience preferred
      • Normal office environment with some exposure to warehouse environment
      • Able to sit at a desk, walk, and stand for long periods of time
      • Some evening and weekend work may be required, depending on program event schedules
      • Interacts with Greater Chicago Food Depository staff, program partners, agencies, clients, donors, and general pubic
