Job Description:
POSITION: Safety ManagerLOCATION: Argo PlantREPORTS TO: Plant
ManagerThe Safety Manager will be responsible for developing,
directing, and communicating plant-wide safety and security
initiatives. Manages the safety and security activities necessary
for operation of the Argo Plant in compliance with Government
regulations, and adherence to Company Policies and standards, to
reduce injuries and workers' compensation claim cost and achieve
plant safety goals.Core Responsibilities:Develops and implements a
comprehensive plant safety and property conservation program which
includes regular planned inspections and training to ensure
compliance with all applicable OSHA programs, Company Policy, and
promotes safety excellence. Maintain and continuously improve the
safety program utilizing historical safety data incorporating the
latest updates in safety procedures and equipment.Audits and
assists operations and maintenance in achieving a safe working
environment, including assisting in the interpretation and
application of OSHA standards. Evaluates trends in safety work
order requests in addition to implementing programs to ensure work
orders are completed in a timely manner. Identifies unsafe
conditions and ensures that they are corrected promptly. Manages
and promotes behavioral based safety programs for both salaried and
union employees, ensuring training is completed.Chairs, provides
direction, and supports an active Joint Plant Safety Committee
composed of both management and labor representatives. Leads the
development and implementation of plant policies and procedures in
response to new safety standards, guidelines, or requirements.
Manages the response to safety committee issues.Manages the
activities of the direct reports in the Safety Department and
external consultants assigned to support safety and security.
Direct the plant security programs, procedures and personnel to
ensure access control procedures are sufficient to provide for the
physical security of plant assets and of personnel on plant
property.Manages applicable regulatory agency inspections, as well
as factory insurance inspections for fire and perils.Manages the
local asbestos operation and maintenance program and industrial
hygiene programs including the atmospheric testing, at
predetermined intervals, using either internal resources or
external consultants and laboratories, to identify potentially
harmful exposures to hazardous materials; develops remedial plans
and other measures to comply with applicable regulations. Regularly
conducts inspections and surveys of all premises, equipment, and
materials so that recommendations can be developed to assure
compliance with established plant safety and property conservation
programs. Serves as a plant radiation officer.Supervises a thorough
and effective incident investigation and reporting procedure
conforming to OSHA requirements for recordkeeping as well as
company directives. Ensures completion of statistics and other
reports to meet company requirements. Provides direction and
expertise during plant emergencies.Provides immediate attention to
employee complaints concerning possible injury, illness, or
potential property loss. Coordinates the investigation of all
work-related injuries and implementation for both procedural and
physical corrective actions. Participates in insured Worker's
Compensation Program and third-party administrator in case
management.Conducts audits of processes regulated under OSHA's PSM
standard. Participates in Hazard and Operability studies,
Management of Change evaluations, and other activities as required
to ensure compliance with the OSHA PSM and company
standards.Qualified candidates will have:Bachelors degree in
Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or similar field required,
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.Five to Seven years'
experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.Five to seven
years' experience implementing occupational safety
programs.Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with
proven ability to lead in a team environment, motivate, build
consensus, and foster positive relationships with team members and
customers.Supervisory experience required. Ability to evaluate
personnel needs/effectiveness and implement effective development
activities for direct reports.Ability to challenge traditional
methods of accomplishing tasks or work activities; ability to
identify and implement creative, innovative solutions, when
appropriate.Demonstrated a high degree of initiative, taking
responsibility for personal actions, decisions, and results.Ability
to write effectively, give clear and concise presentations, and
