Description: Summary The Director of Pastoral Support and Practice works in collaboration with the Executive Minister of Ordered Ministry and Serve Clergy to develop and implement strategies for ministerial health and wholeness across the continuum of care for pastor and laity. In collaboration with other leaders, this Director will cultivate and nurture a healthy, missional leadership culture by coordinating resources and support for members of the Ministerium. This person will participate in inquiries and investigations when concerns of pastor wellness or inappropriate behavior concerns are received. Travel is required. This position is located in Chicago. Requirements: Essential Functions--- Collaborate with the Executive Minister of Ordered Ministry and Serve Clergy and other ECC leaders to formulate and promote a comprehensive strategic plan for healthy missional leaders that encompasses all generations and contexts of the ministerial community.--- In collaboration with the Leader Health and Development Team (LHDT), facilitate support to pastors, superintendents, and church leaders on interpretation of ethical guidelines and reporting procedures for misconduct cases.--- Manage care intake process and triage cases to deliver optimal and timely support. - Respond to crisis assistance requests from pastors, spouses, conference staff and church leaders. - Discern level of care and appropriate interventions. - Provide urgent care for clergy and staff in crisis. - Develop resources and practices for their care continuum. Develop, implement, and manage individualized care plans. - Consult with Executive Minister of Ordered Ministry and Serve Clergy. - Refer to the Ministerial Excellence Fund when appropriate.--- Coordinate care and discipline cases with corresponding conference leadership. Ensure the conference's Committees on Ministerial Standing are aware when a credentialed person is exposed to risks.--- Develop and maintain a comprehensive list of vetted, qualified therapist, counselors, and spiritual directors to ensure support and interventions are readily available.--- Interface with the Board of Ordered Ministry on care and discipline cases, as deemed appropriate.--- Provide coaching, training and support to local churches and conferences on conflict mitigation, self-care practices and healthy boundaries.--- Become knowledgeable of state and federal mandates on child welfare and other applicable regulations. Fulfill the duties of a mandated reporter in matters which include mistreatment off a minor.--- Organize and facilitate church leadership and churchwide appropriate disclosure meetings.--- Coordinate support and services for clergy under care and discipline in a timely manner.--- Maintain updated care and discipline files for all individuals under care and discipline. Formulate reports and maintain corresponding individuals informed of developments.--- Collaborate on the development of initiatives, resources and support that reduce the occurrence or increase of care and discipline cases.--- Keep abreast of current developments and research in emerging trends for care for diverse populations. Develop and/or disseminate print/downloadable resources for the use of clergy and laity. Network with interagency/ecumenical committees and forums (Denominational Caregivers, etc.).--- Contribute to ECC events to raise awareness of and promote pastoral/pastoral spouse and family health.--- Partner with Serve Clergy staff and leaders of all ministry teams to develop and sustain appropriate tools across the care continuum to screen, resource and track development of credentialed ECC clergy.--- Frequent Travel required which may be sporadic based on need - Approx. 30% of the time.--- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Minister of Ordered Ministry and Serve Clergy. Education and ExperienceRequired: master's degree in Pastoral Care/Counseling, Psychology, Divinity, Christian Formation, or a related field. Minimum engagement of 5 years in the ECC, and a minimum of 10 years professional functioning in ministry, to include experience in ministry leadership, small/large group presentations, and direct service provision of counseling, pastoral care, or spiritual direction. Trained in family counseling, drug abuse counseling, sex abuse counseling, conflict resolution, boundary setting/keeping, etc. Ordained in the ECC and working knowledge of the Board of Ordered Ministry or Rules of the Ordered Ministry.Skills--- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Fosters quality focus in others.--- Excellent management and people skills to embrace diversity of schedules, backgrounds, formats, contexts, etc.--- Uses critical thinking skills, applying logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to address challenges.--- Self-starter, with the ability to work independently.--- Experience with Microsoft and Windows applications, databases development and management, and web technologies.--- Environment ConditionsAbility to effectively work within an office setting and also in remote or hybrid environments. Frequent domestic travel and conditions related to travel. Must be versatile and able to work for prolong segments sitting or standing. Must engage in a high technical environment with tools and equipment, such as: computer, cloud-based technology, virtual conferencing equipment, internet and social media, database management system copier, cell communication, etc. Must be able to occasionally lift or move items, less than 35 lbs.
