Since 2009 Evonik Industries AG has been certified as afamily-friendly company by the German Hertie Foundation.The Strategic Account Manager (SAM) will focus on the maintenance and growth of existing business as well as thedevelopment and commercialization of profitable new business in the medical device market.He/she will also act as a champion for one strategic market segment to evaluate market potential, trends and needs inorder to develop and implement strategic accounts plans and a market strategy focused on sustainable growth andvalue generation.The ideal candidate will utilize his/her application development, entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills to maximizesales and profitability by driving sales of our specialty plastic materials and technical solutions in the assigned marketsegments and territory.RESPONSIBILITIESIdentify key stakeholders and understand thecustomer organization, roles & responsibilities ofall persons involved in the buying process andtheir relationship and attitude towards eachother as well as the decision-making process.The candidate will build and foster strongprofessional relationships with the customerwhich leads to a partnership benefiting both thecustomer and Evonik.REQUIREMENTSBS degree or higher in Chemical Engineering,Polymer Engineering, Materials Science or asimilar science or engineering degree. MBAwould be a plus.5-10 years outside sales experience (chemical orplastics markets) selling to key decision makersat industry leading medical devicemanufacturers.

Create strategic accounts plans to understandthe customers’ business model, market andneeds and to implement short and long termactions to maintain existing business and developvalue-added and differentiated technicalsolutions using Evonik’s broad product portfolio.Actively identify new customers and collaboratewith other functions (R&D, technical service,manufacturing, regulatory, etc.) to develop newapplications using his/her technical and productexpertise (material selection, designrecommendations, process optimization, etc.)and close business opportunities at existing andnew customers.Act as a champion for one strategic marketsegment to evaluate market potential, trendsand needs, and as a result, support, develop andimplement a market segment strategy tocapitalize on these opportunities. In thiscapacity, the SAM is also expected to translatewins to other SAM’s regionally and globally.Utilize communication and consultative sellingskills to identify opportunities, lead innovationseminars and develop new applications byleveraging the value proposition of Evonik’sproducts and services.Segment customers and analyze marketenvironment, industry drivers and competitivelandscape to manage price, implementsustainable service model and maximizeprofitability.Strategic thinker with a tactical discipline todeliver results.Experience in application developmentpreferably in the plastics and/or medical deviceindustry (material selection, part/mold design,process optimization, structural analysis,regulatory compliance, etc.).Understanding of marketing fundamentals andstrategy development (market and competitiveanalysis, needs assessment, strategic positioning,marketing plan, etc.).Strong negotiating skills required.
