The Pharmacy Technician 2 - Certified, under the direction of the Pharmacy Technican Supervisor and under the general supervision of registered pharmacists, performs duties such as prescription data entry, labeling, preparing and filling of medication orders for patients of the Specialty Pharmacy. Obtaining prior authorization for prescriptions and shipping of verified prescriptions to the patient's home is also performed. Position Responsibilities: Responsible for assisting the Clinical Pharmacy Specialists in assuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the pharmacy Recognizes and identifies various classes of drugs, and their generic and trade names Understands various drugs' storage requirements and dosage forms Checks and maintains adequate supply of stock necessary to fill prescriptions Facilitates prompt, accurate Rx data entry, filling and dispensing to minimize customer wait time Verifies insurance benefits for both prescription benefit plans and major medical coverage Obtains medication prior authorizations from insurance companies as required Understands Patient Assistance Programs available in the marketplace for commonly dispensed specialty medications and assists patients in qualifying for these programs Demonstrates knowledge of Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program requirements for commonly dispensed specialty medications Enters appropriate patient demographic data into case management software Demonstrates superior customer service skills in every day contact with both internal and external customers Actively participates via 'in-services' and on-going training programs designed to further develop these skills Demonstrates essential computer skills such as order entry, label generation, drug pricing and third-party billing Understands proper methods for packing and sending cold chain drug shipments including the need to account for temperature variations throughout the delivery route Prioritizes workload to maintain an efficient workflow Assists in looking up information to answer his/her own general information questions Refers questions regarding drug information or patient-specific questions to a pharmacist Assumes an active and substantial role in training new and existing employees in all aspects of the position including but not limited to: O Proper receipt, data entry, filling and dispensing of an Rx per established policies and procedures O Adherence to all departmental and company policies and procedures O Training and supervision of the technician(s) during the data entry process Arrives at workstation and begins work in a timely fashion Maintains CE hours required to retain CPhT certification Attends department meetings as scheduled Position Qualifications Include: High School Diploma or GED required Valid State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician license required Valid PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) highly desirable Two years' experience in a customer service-oriented pharmacy environment Excellent data entry skills Flexibility with work schedule Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and quickly in responding to and resolving a wide range of problems Company Highlights: Rush was recently ranked among the top 20 hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
