Title: Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
Department: -Therapy
Reports to: Regional Manager and Program Manager
Job Summary: -
Under the direction and supervision of -physical therapists, -physical therapist assistants -treat patients through exercise, massage, gait and balance training, and other therapeutic interventions. They record patients' progress and report the results of each treatment to the -physical therapist
Job Description: -
- -The PTA is responsible for the treatment for residents who demonstrate disorder of musculoskeletal deficiencies, neurological conditions, balance disorders, and transfer/gait deficits. -Treatment will only be conducted after a written order is received from the physician
- -The PTA is responsible for the screening of residents of the facility as follows
o -New Facility residents: Within 24 hours of admission
o -Long term Residents: Upon receipt of a "Significant Change" form and/or upon referral from nursing
- -The PTA is responsible for the completion of all necessary documentation which includes but is not limited to the following items (All documentation will be cosigned by the RPT)
o -Weekly Progress Notes
o -Monthly Recertification Forms
o -Discharge Summary
o -All other required forms as designated by the facility and Regional Manager
- -The PTA is responsible for attending all required facility meetings and in services, including Medicare meetings patient staffing, family meetings, care plans
- -The PTA will in cooperation with the Regional manager develop programs appropriate to the needs of the residents in the facility to assist them in achieving their highest feasible level of functioning.
- -The PTA will assist the facility in meeting the standards necessary to obtain state, federal and other appropriate certification.
- -The PTA will employ and follow all appropriate facility infection control policies and procedures and will respect and follow OBRA Resident's Rights Guidelines
- -The PTA is responsible for the appropriate scheduling of residents on caseload in addition to all required in-services and meetings
- -The PTA will contract the REGIONAL Manger if productivity levels consistently fall below or exceed the standard to indicate the need for additional staffing or the need for assistance in screening and identifying resident in need of PT services.
- -The PTA is responsible for the scheduling and completing of in-services for facility staff education
- -The PTA will always present her/himself in a professional manner including professional conduct, professional communication, and appropriate dress while in the facility.
- -Other duties as assigned by the Regional Manager and facility
Supervision:
The Physical Therapist Assistant will report directly to the Regional Manager who is responsible for overseeing direct clinical skills, documentation skills, and the compliance to all professional standards. - -Physical Therapist assistant will be indirectly supervised by and RPT, will carry out treatment plans as established by the RPT, and will have all documentation signed by the RPT.

Physical Demands
The Assistant is required to perform a variety of duties relative to the job. The performance of these activities would place the job of Occupational Therapist (PTA)into the moderate heavy category of work demand based upon.
Lifting: -The Assistant is required to perform transfers of patients to and from a variety of surfaces including bed, chair, and commode. -Transfers may require maximal assist with patients weighing greater than 100 lbs. -This activity may be performed frequently basis. -Occasionally, the therapist is required to lift supplies weighing up to 50lbs to chest level and 10lbs to overhead.
Push/Pull: -The Assistant is occasionally required to push/pull patients weighing up to 300lbs. in wheelchair distance up to 200 yards. -This activity may be performed frequently for shorter distances.
Work Environment: The Occupational Therapist (PTA)is required to work in a variety of environmental condition
Specific educational/Vocational Requirements:
1. -Must be able to read, write, and understand English language
2. -Must attend a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education programs provided by the center to maintain certification
3. -Completion of 2 year Physical Therapist Assistant Program state Licensure
4. -Extensive knowledge of department processes
