Job Description
- 12 bed pediatric intensive care unit with 7 critical care beds
and 5 intermediate care beds
- Our PICU is affiliated with Ann & Robert H. Lurie's Children's
Hospital of Chicago
- Our unit cares for patients 0-18 years of age with a full
spectrum of critical care needs
- We have 24-hour Pediatric intensivist coverage
- We have 24-hour in-house Pediatric hospitalist coverage
- Pediatric subspecialties including; Pulmonology,
Hematology/Oncology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Gastro Intestinal,
Renal, Pediatric Surgery, ENT, Cardiology, Orthopedics and
Pediatric Psychiatry

nursing certification and have a strong internal commitment to

- Our pediatric program has been designated as a Child-kind
organization for exemplary pediatric pain practices
- Currently we are operating under a self-schedule model that
includes every third weekend requirements and holiday track
rotations
- Our inpatient Pediatric program holds Pediatric Critical Care
Center (PCCC) and Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics
(EDAP) designation
- Robust ancillary support including Pediatric specific coverage
from Care Coordination, Dieticians, Social Work, Physical Therapy,
Pharmacy, Diagnostic Imaging, Phlebotomy and ChildLife.

- Our leadership team also supports unit and hospital based

APHON, CPN and Pediatric CCRN
- We have a robust shared decision making committee structure
both unit and hospital based
- Quality Practice Counsel, Staff Advisory Counsel, Pediatric
Hem/Onc, Professional Development and various hospital based
committees and work groups
- Cross training opportunities to Inpatient Pediatrics, NICU,
Pediatric ED and Pediatric Outpatient Clinics
The Staff Nurse Inpatient reflects the mission, vision, and values
of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate
Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies,
procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation
standards.
Responsibilities:
- A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who
prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely
ill patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning,
intervention, implementation and evaluation.
- Effectively interacts with patient, significant others, and
other health team members, while maintaining ANA standards of
professional nursing practice.
- Collects and analyzes data, identifies expected outcomes,
develops and implements an individualized plan, coordinates care
delivery and evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
- Directs care and determines the appropriate utilization of any
assistant involved in providing direct patient care.
- Collaborates with patient, family, physicians and ancillary
staff. Creates a documented plan, focused on outcomes and decisions
related to the care and delivery of services that indicates
communications with patients, families, and others.
- Participates in shared governance, committee work, and unit
projects.
- Evaluates and documents the patient's responses to nursing
interventions in the health record and properly individualizes the
plan of care based on the evaluation of findings.
- Utilizes the best available evidence, including research
findings to guide practice decisions.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
- Basic Life Support
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to collaborate with others
- Strong analytic abilities
- Additional requirements for the Emergency Room:
- ACLS
- PALS/ENPC & TNCC within one year of hire
- Additional requirements for the Pediatric Emergency Room:
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support
- TNCC within one year of hire
Preferred:
- Experience in specific clinical area
- Additional preferences for the Emergency Room and the Pediatric
Emergency Room:
- Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
- Emergency Communications Registered Nurse
- Certified Pediatric Nurse
- Certified Emergency Nurse
