Job Description:
Job SummaryThis position involves independent leadership and
contributions to ongoing research projects. The applicant will be
responsible for all aspects of ongoing projects, from development
through delivery. Expertise in performing complex laboratory
assays, data collection, and ability to direct lower level research
staff is essential.Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties)Research
Develop novel data collection procedures and assays. Conceptualize,
initiate, and execute research goals for ongoing lab
projects.Develop and write advanced experimental protocols. A
strong background and knowledge of common programming languages
(MATLAB, R, C) is essential.Perform data collection and/or oversee
data collection from human subjects.Analyze data, interpret
findings, summarize results, and refine experimental
design.Replicate, refine and add/develop new research approaches
based on project needs.Advise on new directions for research based
on experimental results.Communications Oversee the development of
ongoing projects, implement changes as needed, and communicate
progress and concerns to the lab's Principal Investigator.Prepare,
organize, and communicate research results.Assist with grant
writing and development of other documents to secure funding.Assist
with progress reports for submission to granting agencies.Author
and co-author articles for publication and presentation at
scientific symposia and conferences.Staff Management Act as the
direct supervisor to lab staff (graduate students, postdoctoral
fellows, research technicians).Guide, train, and advise lower level
researchers and students on techniques, methods and procedures.Job
Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience Doctoral degree (PhD) in
Applied Psychology, Neuroscience, or closely related field
required.Minimum of 5 years of research experience in
ophthalmology/visual sciences.Advanced knowledge of research
principles, concepts, practices and methods.Expertise in
specialized lab research techniques in ophthalmological
