Join UChicago Medicine, as a New Patient Nursing Coordinator in our Cancer Service Line. --The New Patient Nursing Coordinator is a registered nurse who will use clinical judgement while serving as the first point-of-contact for patients and physicians to coordinate services with UCM medical professionals, ancillary services, BSD, and hospital offices/staff. --In this role, the New Patient Nursing Coordinator is responsible for triaging--patients after gathering disease history, prior treatments and current state of health. They are responsible--for facilitating efficient and effective processes for patients to access various services within the hospital. Finally, the are responsible--for providing guidance to patients through the evaluation process, works with various departments to ensure patients complete their itineraries, revises and communicates itinerary changes as required.--Essential Job Functions

• Completes intake history and uses clinical judgement and triage tools to determine patient appointment needs.
• Serves as first point-of-contact for patients and physicians to coordinate services with UCMC medical professionals, ancillary services, BSD, and hospital offices/staff.--
• Provides quality assurance on records related to diagnosis--and clinical history to coordinate and manage educational/advisory meetings, evaluation tests, and consultations for patients within specified time periods.
• Educates patient on visit expectations and provides basic counseling on subspecialty services.--
• Immediately and independently resolves issues encountered during the day to keep the patient on schedule.
• Collaborates with various departmental staff to ensure proper insurance and billing information is provided for patient's services.
• Ensures clinical protocols and triage tools meet standards for each specialty program.--
• Utilizes databases to maintain patient data, maintains statistical data, and provides detailed reports (charts, graphics, tables, etc) to management on patient servicesRequired Qualifications
  • IL RN License
  • Experience working with various Microsoft based computer software programs for Word required, experience using Mac preferred.
  • Knowledge of scheduling templates, insurance verification, and third party collection procedures.--
  • Knowledge of hospital billing and collection processes.
  • Ability to perform basic data analysis.--
  • Ability to solve problems independently, performs multiple tasks simultaneously, exercise good judgment, and work effectively in a team environment.--
  • Ability and willingness to cooperate with co-workers, supervisors, and physicians to best serve the patients.--
  • Ability to learn and incorporate new systems and processes.--
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills requiring tact, discretion, and maintaining patient confidentiality.--
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.--
  • Ability to attend mandatory training classes offered by the Medical Center after hours or on weekends, with advance notice. Preferred Qualification
    • Three years' experience in cancer care preferred.--
    • Experience in patient advocacy preferred--Position Details
