Job Description:
Cardiac catherization NurseMinimum Qualifications
* Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of
Illinois
* Two (2) years of recent nursing experience in a Adult Critical
Care Unit, or Emergency Department OR One (1) year of recent
nursing experience in Cardiovascular Laboratory, Interventional
Radiology, and/or Electrophysiology Laboratory
* Prior critical care experience with an emphasis on cardiology
* Prior experience using moderate or deep sedation
* Current experience and knowledge related to hemodynamic
monitoring and titration of vasoactive medication infusions
* Current experience and knowledge of radiological safety,
techniques and X-ray equipment and other analysis and recording
equipment utilized in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
* Must be able to respond to emergent calls in Cardiac
Catheterization or Electrophysiology and arriving to the cath lab
suite within 30 minutes of an activation for cardiac
emergencies
* Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
obtained through the American Heart Association
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification obtained through
the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
* One (1) year Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory nursing
experience
* Previous Nursing experience with an emphasis on cardiovascular
patient care
* Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse (CAPA)
* Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN)
* Bilingual
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
* Knowledge of using medical/surgical equipment
* Knowledge and understanding the analysis, recording, and other
equipment utilized in various procedures performed in the lab
* Knowledge of cardiovascular medications, pressors and
anti-arrhythmic agents including dosing, side effects, and drug
interactions. Able to identify and manage adverse events or
unanticipated outcomes using critical thinking skills
* Knowledge of the current requirements of accrediting and
regulatory agencies
* Demonstrates working knowledge of the current requirements of
accrediting and regulatory agencies
* Demonstrates knowledge of cardiovascular and anti-arrhythmic
medications including dosing, side effects, and drug interactions
Demonstrates knowledge in the current use of all forms and reports
required in the day-to-day operation of the unit
* Knowledge of and rationale for the safe use of equipment
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to
communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population
composed of diverse cultures and age groups
* Emergency response skills
* Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for professional
practice, growth, and development
* Demonstrates ability to self-direct and to organize and
prioritize various tasks as necessary
* Demonstrates a basic understanding of radiological safety and
X-ray equipment
* Demonstrates technical skills, trouble shooting skills, and
expert knowledge of catheters and equipment used during EP and
Cardiac procedures
* Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and skill of the moderate
sedation
* Accurate mathematical skills to calculate medications levels
using weight, age, etc.
* Ability to self-direct
* Ability to apply the nursing process and utilize technical skills
for patient care delivery
* Ability to make decisions under pressure
* Ability to see clearly, with or without visual correction
* Ability to hear clearly
* Ability to distinguish regular/high pitched sounds; discriminate
source of sound
* Ability to demonstrate rapid physical/mental coordination
* Ability to use both legs, hands, and fingers
* Ability to stand and ambulate for extended period of time
* Ability to organize varied workload
* Demonstrates attention to detail, accuracy and precision
* Demonstrates an ability to effectively utilize the nursing
process as a basis for delivery of patient care
* Demonstrates responsibility for professional growth and
development in maintaining competency in nursing practice
