Registered Nurse Part Time

Consider joining The Night Ministry as a Registered Nurse
(Part-time) providing nursing care, education, and prevention
services on the Health Outreach bus, with Street Medicine, and in
other outreach settings.
General Purpose: Support the mission and goals of The Night
Ministry (TNM) by offering hospitality, nursing care, education,
and assessments, and providing referrals for further appropriate
treatment to persons experiencing homelessness and any person
without access to adequate health care. Improve and expand the
health care capacity of The Night Ministry.
About The Night Ministry The Night Ministry is a
non-denominational, Chicago-based organization that provides human
connection, housing support, and health care to those who are
unhoused or experiencing poverty. With an open heart, we
compassionately accept each individual as they are and work
alongside them to advocate for their immediate physical, emotional,
and social needs while affirming our shared humanity.
In 1976, a group of diverse congregations founded The Night
Ministry to address the challenges facing the Lakeview and Lincoln
Park neighborhoods. Our first employee, Reverend Tom Behrens, met
with homeless and disenfranchised individuals at night when they
were at their most vulnerable. Under his leadership, The Night
Ministry grew from a one-person operation touching hundreds of
lives to a 150-employee organization serving thousands of
individuals each year. The Night Ministry strives to be a work

Hours may vary depending on the needs of the organization.
Mondays and Tuesdays 1:30pm-10:30pm
Role Qualifications:
* Must possess an unrestricted R.N. license and
* Must have current driver's license and possess evidence of
insurability
* Must have scheduling flexibility, including evenings and
weekends
Position Responsibilities:
* Restores and promotes health by completing the nursing process.
Patient education, harm reduction support, and wound care will be
significant components of the work.
* Provides care within the scope of practice of a registered nurse
and according to standing orders signed by the medical
director.
* Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional,
psychological, and spiritual support to clients.
* Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control
policies and protocols, as well as medication administration and
storage procedures.
* Collaborates with nurse practitioners, physicians,
multidisciplinary team members, and volunteers.
* Offers referrals for health care, including updating and managing
a list of referrals.
* Completes accurate and timely data entry in external and internal
databases, i.e. Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Efforts to
Outcomes (ETO).
* Participates in internal and external training as required.
* Able and willing to travel to and provide services at other
outreach settings, such as shelters.
* Attends all department, agency, and inter-agency meetings as
required.
* According to The Night Ministry's policies, this position is
expected to carry a cell phone and is eligible for partial
reimbursement of monthly cell phone bills.
* Complete other tasks as assigned.
Essential skills and experience:
* Has a minimum of 3 years of nursing experience or a combination
of nursing and outreach experience.
* Ability to function successfully in a team-based environment
* Excellent interpersonal skills
* Ability to react quickly in emergencies; demonstrated "street
smarts"
* Physically able and willing to work in various settings,
including outdoors; this position requires riding the Health
Outreach Bus for Bus shifts and Street Medicine van.
* Familiarity with referral sources
* Current driver's license and good driving record; access to
reliable personal transportation
Nonessential skills and experience:
* Spanish language skills.
* Experience working with similar populations.
