Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Pediatric PCU - Progressive Care Unit - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 02/09/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 48 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, days - Employment Type: Travel Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Stepdown position in a unique inpatient acute care unit requiring Illinois licensure and pediatric technology dependence expertise. Responsibilities - Work in a pediatric stepdown acute care unit with 39 beds covering all specialties - Patient ages range from 2 weeks to 18 years with 50-60% requiring technology dependence - Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3-4 - Ventilator, tracheostomy, and G tube care required - No drips, surgical, or transitional patients - Use of Meditech EMR is required - Day shifts available, typically 4x12 hours from 7:00 to 19:00 - Every other weekend shifts are required - Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs - Care for pediatric patients with chronic illness and technology dependence, including chronic ventilator use - No care for patients on drips, surgical, or transitional status - Scrub attire should be neat and clean; pediatric-themed attire encouraged - Free parking available in shared hospital lots - Block scheduling may be accommodated - Approved RTO must be included in contract prior to start; no RTO additions afterward - Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers - First-time travelers are not accepted for this assignment Requirements - Active IL RN license required at time of consideration; compact licenses not accepted - BCLS and PALS certifications are required - A minimum of 2 years recent pediatric nursing experience is required - Experience with 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios in similar settings is required - Vents, trach, and G tube care experience required - Meditech charting experience required - Flu vaccine required with medical and religious exemptions accepted Benefits - High Pay and Bonuses - Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options - 401(k) Plan - Weekly Payroll Deposit - Free Online CEUs - Generous Housing Allowance - Travel and Licensure Reimbursements - Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy - Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-662045.
