Position Summary:
Workforce development professional that interacts with employers, service providers, city colleges, and neighborhood residents. The Employer Cultivator leads the employment and post-secondary relationship development component of the Family Hub at Chicago Commons by (1) identifying employment sectors and employers able to hire parents from target neighborhoods, (2) helping track parent participants and employers across collective impact network, and (3) helping determine parent-informed post-secondary partners.
Education & Certification Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, or related field. Master's Degree preferred. Five years or more experience working in/for non-profit organization(s)

  • While performing the duties of this job, candidates must regularly operate a word-processing system and, therefore, must be able to read, produce and transmit data on such a system. Desired Outcomes
    Position is tied to programmatic outcomes of:
    • Coordination and implementation of employer, post-secondary, and community-partner meetings
    • Planning and coordination of parent-informed pilot projects
    • Proficient in focus group or qualitative data collection along with attention to detail with employer and post-secondary data
    • Developing a calendar of project management activities 4-6 months in advance based on goals and objectives of the collective impact steering committee.
    • Increasing number of parents referred and enrolled in partner career pathway program
    • Increasing number of parents participating in Steering Committee meetings and providing input into Steering direction of projects.
    • Increasing parents placed and retained in jobs at 30,60, 90,180 and 365 days
    • Increasing parent exposure, application, enrollment, and attainment in post-secondary/vocational programs. Essential Job Requirements & Duties
      • Outreach to employers, career pathway, and post-secondary path programs served by the Early Childhood and school-based settings.
      • Utilize employer screening tools developed by parents to collect eligibility and candidate experience criteria.
      • Identify growing employment sectors and potential employers along with analyzing parent interests and capacities.
      • Develop relationships with employers in order to understand their business and the job requirements of positions they seek to fill.
      • Work with employers to identify specific skills they are seeking, document these skills and experience requirements in data system, and develop a process for clients to acquire those skills.
      • Coordinate sharing of Steering Committee network workshops on career and educational activities including resume and interview preparation, job search strategies, professional networking, educational pathway programs and eligibility.
      • Work as a member of a cross-functional team providing services to families served by the Family Hub, sharing information, participating in team meetings, and helping to track and report progress and outcomes.
      • Research best practices and create family supportive employer and career pathway preparation programs that engage caregiver(s).
      • Interface with neighborhood service providers as needed, with an emphasis on developing relationships with organizations that provide career pathway and job placement services of benefit to parent participants.
      • Advocate for hard-to-employ residents such as Limited English Proficiency, disabled and ex-offenders and assist with coordination of Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language classes with partners.
      • Assisting with organizing job fairs for neighborhood residents where new job opportunities are presented.
      • Analyze reasons why people are not hired or terminated and fine tuning the recruitment and preparation process so people remain employed.
      • Analyze the data, workflow, and employer placement process, and improve the process as necessary.
      • Provide reports and data on a timely basis as needed to project partners and funders.
      • Monthly documentation of job openings, neighborhood applicants, and an analysis of outcomes.
      • Manage data entry and documentation in Salesforce system and assist Manager with reporting and documentation requirements.
      • Represent the organization in the community-wide meetings.
      • Reports to Vice-President of the Family Hub.
      • Other duties as assigned.
        Physical Requirements:
        The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform.
        While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak English, specifically, to communicate both in person and over the telephone. The employee must regularly be able to read English proficiently. The employee must regularly operate a word-processing system and therefore must be able to read, produce and transmit data on such a system. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
