Disorders Salary/Grade:NEX/9 Job_Summary The Child Language Lab
(CLL), directed by Dr. Adriana Weisleder, is looking for a
bilingual (Spanish/English) Research Assistant to work on
longitudinal studies of bilingual children s early language
development. Research in the CLL examines links between early
language environments and language development in children from
diverse backgrounds. We will be starting an NIH-funded study
examining trajectories of language development in Spanish-English
bilingual late talkers. The Research Assistant will assist with all
aspects of the research, including recruitment, conducting
standardized assessments and eye- tracking studies, transcribing
and coding video data, and contributing to data analysis,
presentations and publications. This position requires someone with
a strong attention to detail who can also consider the big picture.
We are looking for someone who can connect well with both young
children and their caregivers. Because studies blend research and
clinical practice, this position requires a flexible and creative
thinker who can work as part of an interdisciplinary team. Performs
biomedical &/or social-behavioral research by administering
tests &/or questionnaires following protocols; collecting,
compiling, tabulating &/or processing responses; gathering
information; &/or assisting in the preparation of material for
inclusion in reports. Completes all activities by strictly
following Good Clinical Practices (GCP) & all relevant current
local, state, & federal laws, regulations, guidance, policy &
procedure developed by the NU Institutional Review Board (IRB),
Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Code of Federal Regulations (CFR),
& the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH). Please note
: Supervisor provides objectives, detailed deadlines and general
instructions. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy and
compliance with instructions, practice, policy and procedures. EE
meets frequently with supervisor to obtain instructions regarding
general phases of work and in some cases as to specific details.
Requires travel to research sites in the Chicagoland area.
Specific_Responsibilities Technical * Recruits study participants.
* Reviews & obtains informed consent. * Schedules study visits with
participants. * Conducts interviews. * Scores test results. *
Collects survey data. o Conducts eye-tracking experiments with
toddlers o Conducts observations of parent-child interactions o
Conducts standardized child assessments * Facilitates communication
with key personnel & participants to maintain project study flow.
Administration * Maintains detailed records of results which may
include collecting, extracting & entering data; &/or preparing
basic charts & graphs. * Performs scientific literature searches in
support of research. * Completes portions of grant applications
&/or documents associated with current local, state, & federal
regulatory guidelines, requirements, laws & research protocols.
Supervision * May train other research staff to interview/test
participants. Miscellaneous * Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum_Qualifications * Successful completion of a full 4-year
course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a
bachelor's or higher degree in a major such as social or health
science or related; OR appropriate combination of education and
experience. * Must complete NU's IRB CITI training before
interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.) * Fluency
in Spanish and English Preferred_Qualifications * Bachelor s degree
in psychology, child development, speech-language pathology, early
childhood education, or related field * Experience working with
families * Experience working with children under 5 years of age *
2-year research experience with human subjects Preferred
