could be.Position Highlights: The Financial Aid Counselor is
responsible for providing counseling to all prospective and current
Rush medical students regarding the financial aid application
process, policies and procedures, and any other financial aid
matters with which students need assistance. The Office of Student
Financial Aid supports Rush Medical College with a total enrollment
of approximately 600 students. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision
and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and
procedures.Position Responsibilities: Responsible for providing
counseling to medical students on the financial aid application
process including completion of the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA), institutional aid application, federal,
private and institutional loans.Provides information on the variety
of federal, institutional, and state funding options, including
Title IV and Title VIII funding.Interprets and explains the
Federal, State and institutional regulations regarding the
portfolio of financial aid programs, including federal Title IV and
Title VIII programs.Verifies work-study eligibility for students
and assists with completion of required documentation.Advises
medical students on debt management, credit worthiness, and
Federal, State and University guidelines. Counsels prospective
students, existing students, residents, and alumni on loan
repayment issues and concerns.Meets with Rush Medical College
students and residents to provide information and guidance with
respect to their aid packages, loan repayments and other financial
questions. Possesses the ability to effectively communicate with
students using a variety of mediums: email, phone, in-person,
social media.Resolves problems, and communicates with students in a
timely manner the status of their student aid, Develops and
distributes guidelines, procedures, newsletters related to the
processing and awarding of financial aid to include important
deadlines and other processing dates and details.Conducts
workshops, seminars, and informational sessions for Rush Medical
College students, residents, and staff in order to further explain
financial aid and related matters.Answers inquiries from faculty
and staff on an array of financial aid policies and
procedures.Participates in recruitment and new student orientation
sessions to discuss the specifics of individual financial aid award
packages, advise new and subsequent eligibility
requirements.Responsible for administration and management of
Federal Direct Loans, Alternative Loans and Institutional
Loans.Responsible for the processing of Federal Perkins including
the transmission of loan data to Campus Partners.Continuous
monitoring and reconciliation of all loan disbursements to student
accounts to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and in
compliance with federal regulations.Reconciles Federal Direct Loan
disbursements and cash withdrawals with university Bursar on a
monthly basis in compliance with federal regulations.Certifies,
processes, and imports all Alternative Loan funding via Electronic
Loan Management system (ELM) and the university's student
information system; Colleague.Reviews daily Colleague report for
disbursement errors and makes corrections as needed.Exports all
origination and disbursements records to the Department of
Education's Common line Origination and Disbursement (COD) on a
daily basis.Assists the Director of Student Financial Aid with
closing the annual Federal Direct Loan program.Schedules, prepares,
and conducts group Exit counseling sessions for medical students
graduating or withdrawing from the college.Create loan history
portfolios for actively enrolled students to track and provide
accurate comprehensive yearly financial counseling.Interprets and
explains the Federal Direct Loan program repayment options
available to borrowers especially the variety of income sensitive
repayment plans.Compiles and maintains data on graduated students'
annual average debt per academic program. Regularly shares this
information with key stakeholders.Assists the Office of Financial
Affairs with preparation of Exit Counseling information for Rush
Loans, Perkins Loans, Grad Plus and any other loan.Reviews
financial aid application materials, including the FAFSA,
institutional aid application, parent information, tax
documentation, and any other required application
information.Corresponds with students to request additional
documentation and reconcile conflicting information pursuant to the
federal guidelines.Calculates financial aid eligibility using
federal and institutional formula.Prepares financial aid packages
and cost of attendance budgets for students enrolled in the medical
college by established due dates.Position Qualifications Include:
Bachelor's Degree.Experience with utilizing a variety of
technologies, in student information systems, Microsoft Excel and
federal financial aid databases such as CPS, COD, NSLDS and
ELM.Excellent public speaking and interpersonal skills.Exceptional
organizational skills and ability to work in a fast-pace deadline
driven environment.Strong written communication skills.Superior
customer service skills.Strong commitment to professional
development and keeping current on financial aid best
practices.Values and exhibits strong commitment to Rush's Diversity
goals and objectives.Experience with resolving conflict and
