Job Description:

Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a Leadership Development Programs Lead who will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting leadership development programs across all levels of the laboratory. As part of the Learning and Organization Development function, the Leadership Development Lead will work closely with laboratory leadership and key stakeholders to grow Argonne's leadership pipeline to ensure alignment with laboratory goals, strategic objectives, and the laboratory's focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The ideal candidate will perform a wide range of leadership development activities, including strategic leadership research, needs/skills assessment, and curriculum design, development, and implementation. The Leadership Development Lead will provide expert consultation and guidance to the laboratory on any leadership development issue, activity, or initiative.This job description documents the general nature of work but is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all activities, duties, and responsibilities required.   • Leads the development of a comprehensive leadership development strategy based on identified organizational transition points in the leadership pipeline
  • Conducts regular needs assessments with organizational leaders at all levels in support of the leadership development strategy
  • Plans, designs, develops, implements, and evaluates leadership development programs based on identified organizational needs, opportunities, and skills gaps
  • Manages leadership development programs after implementation to ensure consistency, quality, fairness, and measurable results
  • Plans and facilitates trainings, forums, and similar interactive sessions as needed in support of the leadership development strategy
  • Conduct strategic benchmarking across the national laboratory complex and with other world-class leadership development programs, utilizing benchmarking data to inform improvements to existing programs and processes
  • Build strong individual and organizational relationships across the laboratory at all levels to ensure buy-in for and support of leadership development initiatives
  • Collaborates with internal partners to align leadership development solutions with existing employee development programs, Organizational Development initiatives, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts
  • Identifies, evaluates, selects, and manages external vendors in support of leadership development activities and initiatives
  • Measures and reports the impact of leadership development programs through metrics, focus groups, performance results, and similar evaluative methods
  • Serves as a consultant and strategic thought partner to Argonne's various directorates with a focus on listening, understanding, and collaboratively designing solutions that generate results
  • Leads efforts to define, develop, and refine organizational competencies in support of Argonne, its directorates, and its leadership and employees
  • Champions Argonne's culture through participation in and, as applicable, leadership of initiatives supporting the continued growth and development of organizational culture
  • Supports Argonne's talent strategy and performance management programs through consultation, collaboration, coaching, and educationPosition Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Leadership, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Organizational Development, Education, Human Resources, or related field required. Master's degree preferred
    • Previous experience as a leader preferred
    • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership development experience in a corporate, government, or higher education environment
    • Demonstrated track record of successful enterprise-wide leadership initiatives, programs, and processes
    • Solution-focused with the ability to turn leadership theory into behavior-based leadership practice
    • Self-driven mindset with the ability to receive general objectives and operate with a high level of independence
    • Demonstrated project management skills in a professional environment
    • Proven experience in the areas of leadership theory and practice, change management, and organizational culture
    • Strong consultative skills and experience working with and influencing business partners in the determination of organizational needs and opportunities
    • Ability to plan and prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and act with the flexibility and initiative to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly-changing environment
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to tailor solutions and communication style to diverse audiences and to present complex information in a clear and understandable manner
