International Merchant - Paint, Sundry & Cleaning

The Job

The International Paint, Sundry & Cleaning Merchant is responsible for all aspects of the Ace International assortment strategy development and execution and Private Brand Imports for assigned categories. This leader works cross-functionally to provide Private Label solutions across Ace Domestic and Ace International, while owning the full merchandising strategy and execution for Ace International inclusive of private label and regional suppliers. The merchant will provide leadership within the organization via a thorough understanding of our global retailers and marketplace, opportunities for Ace International retailers to grow via differentiated assortment and ability to articulate and drive an action plan to execute.

This role requires a strong skill set of leadership, strategic focus, business acumen and communication ability to manage a complex, international business. Experience in merchandising, supplier relationship and negotiation, business evaluation and managing complex product-driven businesses is required.

What you'll do

Strategy and International Assortment Planning

  • Define the long-range vision for Product Categories and International Paint that delivers sustained, profitable growth
  • Build actionable & financially robust strategic plans, set measures of success (KPIs and OKRs), collaborate cross-functionally to engage company-wide resources and execute with autonomy and operational excellence
  • Deliver increasing sales penetration in Private Label products and International Retailers while optimizing SKU productivity
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers, cross-functional partners and senior leadership to continually achieve milestone progress

    Private Label and Product Development
    • Identify product opportunities for Private Label. Work closely with US Domestic Ace merchants and within own international responsibilities to source viable products for various markets
    • Set specs, manage deliverables and collaborate with Ace Sourcing teams to deliver quality products on time and on spec
    • Manage all aspects of product development including product specifications, costing, profit build up and pricing strategy. Serve as the product expert for assigned categories, including Liquid Paint
    • Actively champion Private Label growth through the delivery of quality product with exceptional cost management in line reviews, category updates and product opportunities

      International Merchandising
      • Set the merchandising strategy for Ace International. Leverage private label product development to expand the Ace brand globally through product
      • Identify market opportunities with Ace International Sales, source or establish supplier partnerships to deliver on market needs
      • Be able to communicate and present effectively to international customers, suppliers and cross-functional partners
      • This role requires flexibility due to communicating with international partners in various time zones

        International Paint Production
        • With the Ace Sourcing team, identify, engage, and secure international paint manufacturing partners to fuel international paint growth
        • Manage the relationship with all 3rd party international paint manufacturing partners. Identify proper partners by region, negotiate advantageous contracts, manage for operational excellence, address supply to deliver high service levels and manage the day-to-day relationship
        • In conjunction with tolling/supplier partners, develop market relevant paint formulations
        • Identify and plan for by-country Paint product regulations, governmental programs, shipping conditions and compliance requirements; determine either export or tolling strategy for each market based on this analysis
        • For international paint manufacturing (tolling) partners, manage and deliver on full paint program development, inclusive of paint, colorants, in-store POP, machines, training, marketing, promotions and store implementation

          Sales and Retailer Management
          • Collaborate with internal teams including domestic merchandising and Ace Paint team, sales, inventory, new business development, etc. to fuel the growth of entire business portfolio globally
          • Operate autonomously as the face, point of contact and owner of all international efforts and initiatives
          • Enable the successful implementation of Ace International programs in new markets. Develop and present viable programs, customized by market, to internal sales teams and retailers. Provide standards and guidance to create robust, financially secure, scalable retailer programs
          • Attend retailer group meetings and targeted retail store visits
          • Utilize all available tools to communicate new programs, changes or issues
          • Travel internationally for sales and retailer support

            Convention Planning
            • Drive the growth of Ace International paint through Ace Conventions and retailer trade shows, inclusive of theme, promotions, booth set-up and new product launches
            • Select vendors to attend semi-annual convention

              Inventory/Supply Chain Support
              • Clearly communicate international sales forecast for export business to vendor supplier. Provide ample notification of exceptions to appropriately influence production capacity. Effectively set and manage retailer expectations given shipping lead times
              • Recognize vendor service issues and take initiative/action to resolve
              • Assist in inventory planning for promotional items

                Ace International Merchant Competencies

                • Presentation skills - Ability to plan, assemble and present with excellence strategy, execution and updates to leadership, across the organization, vendors and retailers

                  What you will need:

                  Knowledge, Experience, and Competencies:
                  • 7+ years of business experience in merchandising, paint or international business
                  • 3+ years managing a P&L with track record of results
                  • Experience managing agent relationships or 3rd party supplier relationships with contractual experience
                  • 3+ years managing paint product categories is a plus
                  • Passionate drive to deliver growth and results while operating autonomously with minimal direction
                  • Excellent and demonstrable problem-solving and decision-making skills required
                  • Excellent and demonstrable interpersonal and communication skills required
                  • Understand and leverage financial measures that impact corporation to deliver financial results
                  • Proven ability to manage multiple, high-value, simultaneous projects and meet deadlines in a highly fluid environment
                  • Proven ability to work seamlessly in a cross-functional matrix environment with multiple communications touchpoints, influencing cross-functionally to deliver results.
                  • Ability to present and adapt to multiple audiences including customers, suppliers, and executive leadership.
                  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time Internationally
                  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point,
                  • Knowledge of PCM, SAP and guided Ad-hoc reporting tools
