SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Referrals and Outreach Supervisor, the Parent Consultant provides referral services to parents seeking childcare. Provides education and information on child development issues, quality indicators, licensing rules, IDHS Child Care Assistance Program, Chicago Early Learning and other early care and education programs. All work to be completed with minimum supervision and in accordance with organizational standards. ThIs incumbent will be expected to promote and adhere to the workplace core capabilities of: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement, communication, competent people and clear priorities. All work to be completed with minimum supervision and in accordance with organizational standards. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following. The organization reserves the right to add to, delete, change, or modify the essential duties and responsibilities at any time.

  • Offer information, education, and consultation to parents seeking childcare over the phone and/or at walk-in desk. Educate parents on how to select care, developmental needs, childcare options, availability of care, licensing, subsidy information including the IDHS Child Care Assistance Program, Chicago Early Learning, DCFS programs, etc.
  • Provide childcare referrals to parents based on parents' needs/request and contractual obligations; conduct service evaluations/follow-ups with parents.
  • Confirm childcare openings with providers.
  • Knowledgeable about early intervention and special needs options.
  • Input data, maintain customer databases and maintain files. Prepare reports for internal use and written consumer education materials.
  • Refers potentially eligible parents to the Child Care Assistance Program for information on IDHS program; educates parents on the Healthy Food Program and other Illinois Action for Children programs. Provide referrals to external resources as needed.
  • Conduct presentations on our services to community organizations and groups.
  • Attend outreach events in the community to provide information on our services; this may include events hosted on evenings and weekends.
  • Execute our workplace core capabilities of: accountability, customer focus, continuous quality improvement (CQI), communication, competent people and clear priorities.
  • Other Functions: The Organization may assign other functions to the job at its discretion. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Early Education or related field with at least 18 credit hours of child development and two years work experience with direct childcare OR Associates degree or two years of college classes with a minimum of 60 credit hours in Social Services with at least 18 credit hours in child development with three years work experience with direct childcare in which at least one year is in a child care resource and referral program. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Fluent in English and Spanish Ability to travel locally Competent in Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint Benefits of Working at IAFC:
