At Hertz, our senior data scientists are responsible for defining, developing and maintaining best in class machine learning and predictive models to create business value and identify key strategic opportunities. To achieve this you will outline work requirements, assign and delegate tasks to junior staff, and monitor the performance within the data science team.
As a senior data scientist at Hertz you will have the opportunity to work on impactful strategic initiatives and use state of the art technologies to solve complex problems to enable and optimize our digital, connected fleet, pricing, and ridesharing products.
Your main objective is to leverage data science techniques and machine learning to drive operational efficiency and effectiveness by enabling proactive data-driven decisions across the organization. This includes fostering collaboration, building partnerships, co-developing products, sharing knowledge, providing insights and valuable predictive information to leadership teams to inform strategy and highlight potential risks and opportunities that initiate the drive for change.
Key Responsibilities:



  • Exceed the needs of our customers and business by defining best practices to develop statistical and machine learning techniques to build bespoke models


  • Formulate, research, and manage data driven projects focused on enhancing business outcomes and impacting core KPIs with data science and advanced analytics


  • Work cross-functionally to identify actionable insights from our rich data sources and create new tools to support the business and drive value from our data


  • Monitoring the performance of junior data scientists and assist their development with practical guidelines


  • Cross validating production models to ensure high performance and generalizability


  • Work in an agile manner to constantly seek the most efficient method to deliver against business objectives by delivering rapid insights and proof of concepts to stakeholders


  • Use data visualization tools to explain your results simply and succinctly to technical, non-technical, and senior audiences


  • Develop methods to extract actionable insights from data science products and define processes to inform business strategies with these insights


  • Leverage cloud technologies to deploy and operationalize machine learning endeavor


    Required Skills and Experience


    • Minimum of 6 years hands-on experience in a data science role


    • Minimum 4 years of intensive experience with cloud-based Big Data, ML and Analytics technologies, preferably AWS


    • Experience coaching and supervising junior level data scientists


    • Experience with event driven architectures and implementing analytics on data streams utilizing technologies such as Kinesis


    • Strong capabilities in scripting languages such as Python


    • Strong capabilities in SQL with experience working with structured and semi-structured data


    • Strong experience with statistical analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques


    • Experience with operationalizing Machine Learning, this includes working with Docker, CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and more specifically, working experience with Amazon Sagemaker


    • Experience with Data Visualization tools such as Tableau


    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with Agile/Scrum experience


    • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills with a proven record for identifying and diagnosing problems, and solving complex problems with simple, logical solutions


    • Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical information and concepts to multiple organization levels


      Required Education

      • A bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, or other quantitative discipline such as statistics, mathematics, physics or engineering
