Safety is the top priority at Chicago Public Schools, and the Office of Safety and Security has implemented a comprehensive system that includes trained staff, protocols, programs, and policies to keep students and staff safe before, during, and after school.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Event Safety Supervisor, the Crowd Control Specialist is a temporary part-time seasonal support role in the Office of School Safety and Security. The Crowd Control Specialist is a critical role that supports the District's school community, sporting events and other special events for our students, parents and staff. This role is responsible for the overall safety and security of CPS Special events; a critical factor of which is establishing and maintaining a positive culture and climate. This role requires reliable workers who are able to defuse and de-escalate acts of misconduct and/or serious incidents.

The Crowd Control Specialist will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of 2 to 4 days per week, up to 20 hours weekly. Work will primarily be during the evenings and outdoors, and may include weekends.

Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position.

The pay rate is $15.40 per hour.

The Crowd Control Specialist will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Fulfill duties associated with the post assigned as part of the venue's security plan; maintain an orderly post and remain at the post at all times unless otherwise directed by a supervisor
  • Actively respond to incidents, fights or other issues in the venue that threaten the safety of guests
  • Report unusual activity or suspicions of safety issues to the On Duty Supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Complete proper documentation related to incident reports and misconduct reports
  • Monitor venue grounds and entrances to ensure only authorized personnel and authorized visitors access; if assigned to the main entrance, ensure all guests follow entry screening process
  • Lead efforts to de-escalate inappropriate behaviors
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and positive learning environment as a top priority In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Crowd Control Specialist must possess the following qualifications:

        • Must demonstrate the ability to exercise dignity and respect when interacting with students, parents, staff and guests at all times
        • Must be able to physically stand on post and/or remain mobile for the full duration of the shift Conditions of Employment

          As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
          • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
          • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. "Up-to-date" on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
