Job Summary
-The Associate Compliance Officer is responsible for fostering a corporate climate that promotes integrity and ethical behaviors in all matters related to compliance rules, regulations, and state and federal law. The position serves as the leader with oversight of the UCM Corporate Compliance Office and collaborates with other Departments with responsibility for ensuring compliance with Federal and State rules and regulations. Primary partners include Departments of Finance for the BSD and the Medical Center, Department of Care Coordination, and the Health Information Management Department in addition to the Clinical Departments of the Biological Sciences Division.Responsibilities

  • Ensures the delivery and success of the OCC audit services, OCC education services, and OCC risk assessment services.
  • Serves as an internal resource to the Compliance Program as well as to other departments with responsibility for ensuring compliance with Federal and State rules and regulations.
  • Accountable for the analysis of compliance issues and the subsequent education and remediation of potential compliance concerns.
  • Advises teams to develop and administer policies related to affirmative action, non-discriminatory practices for persons with disabilities, and unlawful harassment or sexual misconduct.
  • Manages and provides confidential counseling and expertise to those who feel they have experienced unlawful treatment based on University programs and activities.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
    Minimum Qualifications
    -Education:Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.---
    Work Experience:Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.---

    -Education:
    • Bachelor's degree.Experience:
      • A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in a hospital, academic medical center, or other large, complex corporate organization.
      • Previous experience in a hospital, physician's office, or compliance setting.Licenses and Certifications:
        • Coding certification.
        • Certification in Healthcare Compliance or willingness to obtain certification within 1 year of starting the position.Technical Skills or Knowledge:
          • Strong computer skills including the ability to effectively use software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, and Internet Explorer.
          • Demonstrated analytical skills sufficient to produce reports and graphs related to the progress and success of the compliance program.Preferred Competencies
            • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of compliance concepts, such as Fraud Waste and Abuse, Conflicts of interest, CMS Teaching Physician Rules, revenue cycle, coding, and documentation requirements.
            • Ability to communicate rules and information to staff at all levels confidently.
            • Knowledge of state, federal, local, and payer-specific regulations and policies pertaining to documentation, coding, and revenue cycle.
            • Knowledge of government hospital and professional services reimbursement systems (OPPS, IPPS, PFS).
            • Demonstrated capacity to work independently in an organized, detailed manner while maintaining a collaborative team environment.
            • Established ability to promote productive teamwork within a group.
            • Confirmed ability to successfully lead projects from inception to launch and evaluate ongoing results.
            • Established skills in managing multiple projects while responding to shifting priorities and meeting changing deadlines in a positive manner.
            • Demonstrated capacity to work independently in an organized, detailed manner while maintaining a collaborative team environment.
            • Strong project management skills.
            • Attention to detail and ability to lead/motivate.
            • Ability to think abstractly and concretely.
            • Ability to develop reports, presentations, and spreadsheets.
            • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
            • Experience in handling complex organizational projects.
            • Excellent problem identification and solution skill to address difficult, complex issues.
