Job Description:

The Pediatric Inpatient Clinical Liaison is responsible for providing counseling and support for innovation center staff, patients, families and caregivers. This includes organizing support groups or counsel family members to assist in understanding, dealing with or supporting the family member or patient. The Pediatric Inpatient Liaison will act as a liaison with referring facilities to ensure a smooth transition to acute rehabilitation and what to expect in the next level of care. The Pediatric Inpatient Liaison will collaborate with the innovation center staff to evaluate the patient's medical or physical condition and to assess client needs at admission and as needed. Meets regularly with patients and families to support them throughout the inpatient stay.

Principal Responsibilities


The Pediatric Inpatient Clinical Liaison:



  • Counsels, mediates and suppoirts patients and staff to foster a positive therapeutic engagement
  • Provides support to innovation ceneter staff with patients, families and other caregivers.
  • Assists in helping the clinical team build trust with patients and families.
  • Identifies, recommends and where appropriate implements supportive activities such as support groups, staff, patient and/or family education.
  • Works in conjunction with patient family counselor to assist with social evaluations.
  • Documents as appropriate in medical record transition of care from referring facility or home to acute rehab level of care.
  • Assesses for and support interdisciplinary group on any special needs related to the culture of the patient/family/caregivers.
  • Provides crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Communicates findings to physician, nurses, allied health and extended interdisciplinary team.
  • Serves on various adhoc and standing committees as requested.
  • Liaisons for the team for pre-admission clinical and social information.
  • Disseminates pertinent family dynamics to the team.
  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
