Position Summary The Docket Clerk is primarily responsible for performing daily court runs and meeting docket support requirements for attorneys practicing in multiple courts and jurisdictions. Position will review legal documents in order to calculate, record and disseminate timely response dates pursuant to court rules and civil procedure. In addition, the Docket Specialist will be responsible for docketing, in-person and electronic case document filings.and have comprehensive knowledge of State and Federal court rules and court procedures and provide timely reports of response dates on a regular basis. Candidate will also work independently on specific projects and research assignments. Essential Functions Travel to courts on a daily basis to file pleadings, submit other documents and conduct case research Conduct electronic court filings Coordinate process servers Index and enter all pleadings into Firm's automated docket system, JuraLaw System, including calendaring due dates submitted by attorneys Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly docket reports to those working on calendared matters Prepare and distribute specialized docket reports on request Maintain and update all additions and changes in the automated docket system, including case name, venue or court jurisdiction, case number, and/or responsible attorney Reconcile all expenses on a daily basis Respond to written or verbal requests from attorneys, paralegals and secretaries regarding calendared events, pleadings, and court procedures and modifications to compliance dates on the docket and calendar Assist the attorneys in researching and keeping up to date on court procedural rules in the various jurisdictions in which the Firm practices Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Requirements Education: College level training or paralegal certificate preferred. Experience: Minimum of two years experience as a general litigation calendar or docket clerk or as a paralegal, legal assistant or case manager role with docket responsibilities for a particular case, as well as familiarity with the procedural and document filing requirements of the Illinois courts. Skills: Knowledge of JuraLaw (or similar docketing software), Pacer, Courtlink, Lexis-Nexis, Westlaw. Knowledge of court rules and procedures, and demonstrated ability to apply the rules to accurately calculate deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels. Possess a customer focus and have a track record of providing the highest level of customer service. Must be detail oriented. Able to organize and prioritize issues and handle competing priorities. Ability to take initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done. Able to solve problems quickly, effectively, and diplomatically. Flexibility and ability to adapt to constantly changing priorities.
