Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior formal clinical training. This may include CMA, CNA, PCT,
EMT, corpsman, paramedic, and nursing or medical student
experience.
- Successful completion of the institutional screening
examination.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age specific variables and growth and
development.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the telephone and
patient call system(s).
- Successful completion of PCT course with subsequent
demonstration of required competency.
- Ability to solve simple problems and prioritize multiple
demands.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Phlebotomy.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of Epic.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the telephone and
patient call system(s).

Qualifications
- Prior clinical experience in an acute care setting.Physical
Demands
- Work requires the ability to walk throughout the Medical Center
and to be standing or walking most of the designated shift.
- Work requires lifting or carrying objects 35-40 lbs. and
supporting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300
lbs.
- Work conditions include performing procedures where
carelessness could result in injury or illness and contact with
potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical
agents.Responsibilities
- Reports to charge RN or designate for assignment of
duties.
- Under the direction of the RN, participates in the
implementation of individualized plans of care Assists patients in
preparing for procedure as indicated by the patient's individual
needs and abilities.
- Obtains patient data and documents accurately in the specific
patient's medical record in real time.
- Immediately reports changes in patient condition to the
appropriate RN.
- Correctly labels and processes specimens for laboratory
analysis.
- Performs EKG.
- Assists with admission, discharge, and transport under the
direction of the Registered Nurse, prioritizes workflow. Transports
laboratory specimens and patient belongings as required.
- Obtains blood products, supplies and equipment, patient
belongings as necessary.
- Rounds assigned areas on a regular basis according to unit
protocols.
- Performs point of care testing.
- Provides assistance to staff in all types of procedures, which
may include assisting with equipment, assisting with difficult or
combative patients and helping to provide emotional support to
patients.
- Responds in a timely manner to pick-up and deliver specimen to
appropriate areas within the Medical Center. Communicates to
responsible RN prior to removing specimen from room.
- Documents movement of specimen within unit protocol.
- Assists nurse with patient positioning and transporting of
patients as requested by the nursing staff.
- Demonstrates aseptic technique, when necessary.
- Assists the nurse in the emptying and disposal of fluids
related to uncomplicated tubes and drains.
- Documents amounts in the medical record.
- Other duties as assigned.PATIENT SATISFACTION
- Participates in all patient satisfaction initiatives.
- Assists patients, family members and other visitors proactively
at all times.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all patient information and
records.
- Treats patients, visitors and staff with respect and
dignity.INTRAVENOUS LINE INSERTION/PHLEBOTOMY -
- Demonstrates competency to insert peripheral intravenous lines
(PIV) and applies dressing in compliance with hospital
procedure.
- Demonstrates basic understanding of procedure to be performed
ensuring proper placement of PIV line to not interfere with planned
procedure.
- Provides instruction/information to patient/significant other
concerning placement of IV line/care being provided. Assists in
emergency situations as needed.
- Performs phlebotomy as assigned.
- Demonstrates competency in the use of select unit specific
monitors, pumps, and other equipment.MAINTANENCE OF HEMOSTASIS
- Monitors arterial puncture sites on a continuous basis for any
signs of unusual bleeding, reports all unexpected bleeding or
changes to the site to responsible Registered Nurse.
- Performs appropriate actions as identified in Standard of Care
for Arterial Puncture sites (to be developed).
- Recognizes signs of possible hematoma formation.
- Responsible for providing pressure or devices as ordered by
Registered Nurse or responsible MD to arterial puncture site.Unit
Responsibilities
- Checks refrigerator/freezer temperatures and documents on
appropriate log, notify nursing management of any temperature
discrepancies.
- Notify MCE when defrosting of refrigerators is needed (notify
Operating Room Education and Quality Coordinator. Notify Charge
Nurse of any environmental or safety hazard, which are unresolved
and additional assistance, is needed. Monitor procedural areas for
clutter, hallway obstructions and misplaced equipment and
supplies.
- Pick-up and deliver required items as requested.
- Responsible for the maintaining inventory, restocking supplies
with supply Chain staff and identifying items needed for
reorder.
- Maintains a safe work environment: Keeps patient rooms and unit
orderly according to guidelines and unit routine. Independently
orders, organizes, and restocks assigned areas according to unit
specifications.
- Maintains emergency supplies.
