Field Service Technician - Midwest region Seeking a full time Field Service Technician in the Chicago, IL - Midwest region. Must live in proximity near a major airport. Working from your home, the Field Service Technician provides prompt and accurate technical support. The daily work environment will be in optical labs, working directly with customers throughout major US cities. The field tech will maintain a normal travel schedule which involves approximately 80% travel to customers and 20% office and other activities. We are seeking candidates with 2-5 years of field service experience in industries having electro-mechanical skills, a good knowledge of computers, and those that take "ownership" of customer issues. Applicants that have a comprehensive understanding of the optical industry, specifically coating and polishing machines, will have strong consideration. Summary: Takes responsibility for the installation, maintenance and repairs on all Satisloh vacuum coating equipment by performing the following duties. Previous knowledge of vacuum coating systems and processes a huge plus. --- Possesses ability to read and interpret hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic schematics.--- Provides technical support to customers via travel and telephone support.--- Assists customer service and shipping/receiving with part identification.--- Fosters and maintains a working environment within the department that encourages positive, open and professional communication and a strong focus on the customer.--- Maintains normal traveling schedule which involves approximately 75% travel to customers and 25% office, training and coordination of meetings.--- Performs customer service and customer communication.--- Provides prompt and accurate technical support via customer service phone calls.--- Addresses customer issues in a timely manner.--- Maintains ongoing contact with Field Service Manager to discuss scheduling.--- Prepares expense reports.--- Prepares Service Work Orders for all customers visits.--- Updates and maintains customer database.--- Attends trade shows and exhibitions.--- Provides manuals and other documentation to customers upon request.--- Attends product/operations training in Italy, Germany or Switzerland upon request.--- Understands, evaluates and meets the customer's needs and expectations in a proactive manner.--- Facilitates the department's implementing change and continuous improvement of processes.--- Works with all departments to assure maximum coordination of efforts in the resolution of common problems and the attainment of common objectives.--- Maintains files and prepares correspondence, memos and reports.--- Solves problems.--- Works closely with project managers to improve processes improvements.Education: High School Diploma required, preferred Technical Degree (two or four year college) or Armed Forces Electronics Training, a plusPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
