Job Description:

The Product Architecture Team in the New Product Development organization at S&C is responsible for "powering" technical architecture for the next generation of S&C products. Test Architects report to the Director of Product Architecture, and work in a department that is chartered to provide overall solution architecture and technical leadership to help drive major projects at S&C. In the Test Architect role, you will be responsible for working with Product and Sub-System Architects, Development Engineering and QA Leads to determine product and system level testing requirements and test approaches, create test plans and test strategy, and be the overall technical owner of a project or feature from a test perspective. The ideal candidate will have excellent product, system, software, and test automation skills, experience with communication offerings, protocols and eco-systems. As a successful test engineer, you will possess excellent interpersonal skills. You will work effectively with internal and external customers and have demonstrated leadership within professional associations. You should possess very effective verbal and written communication skills. You must have a strong sense of ownership. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work in an engineering culture that is customer focused
  • Contribute in testing of highly scalable and reliable systems
  • Develop and recommend test methodologies and approaches for new products, features and releases
  • Define test architecture and test beds for new products, features and releases
  • Design test cases, write test plans, and implement manual and/or automated tests
  • Work closely with Product Management, Product Architecture, Product Development, Production Operations and other internal teams to develop test cases that represent end-user scenarios and use cases
  • Work closely with Product Support, and Application Engineering teams to reproduce and debug problems reported from the field
  • Provide lab support and upgrade, OEM interface, 3rd party test vendor interface
  • Stay current on new processes, practices, and technology developments in order to ensure they are evaluated to be brought into S&C and enhance our testing solutions and frameworks. To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
    • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of testing approaches, practices, and techniques to help design and deliver the overall testing methodology, preferably for electric utility grid distribution automation systems.
    • Experience in test architecture of distributed systems
    • Knowledge of control systems desired
    • Knowledge of power systems and power hardware a plus
    • Experience coding in C/C++, C#, Python, JAVA
    • Experience working in a Unix/Linux programming environment
    • Experience in test automation frameworks; Proven results in implementing test suite automation to reduce test cycle time and test effort, and improve product quality
    • Proficient in software development lifecycle (SDLC) and related SDLC tools such as Git (using GitHub or Bitbucket), JIRA, and Confluence.
    • Strong technical leadership abilities with good interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to travel less than 10% of the time with some periods lasting more than a week. Relevant Experience Required: -10+ years of experience in Product QA and System Test with preferably 2+ years as a Test Architect MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      • Pulling: Infrequent pulling of objects, possibly related to rearrangement work.
      • Bending: Occasional bending during access to equipment.
      • Reaching: Infrequent reaching.
      • Handling: Frequent handling of parts or tools.
