The Legal Director will provide legal support for global sourcing strategies, supplier agreements, and compliance with trade regulations while collaborating with cross-functional teams to facilitate smooth operations.How you will do it:Leverage a deep understanding of supply chain management and its strategic imperatives to develop and execute legal strategies that support business objectives, either independently or in partnership with internal and external legal teams.Stay current on laws, regulations, and compliance requirements associated with global trade and supply chain operations.Act as a subject matter expert on matters related to procurement, supply chain contracts, and regulatory compliance, providing strategic advice to mitigate risks and enhance operational efficiencies.Negotiate complex supplier agreements, ensuring compliance with legal standards and organizational policies.Proactively identify potential legal risks related to supply chain activities and implement strategies and process improvements to mitigate those risks while supporting business initiatives.Offer guidance to teams for successfully navigating compliance and regulatory challenges associated with global sourcing and distribution.Counsel the business on dispute resolution and manage legal issues that arise in the supply chain context.Collaborate closely with supply chain managers, corporate centers of excellence, regional legal teams, and outside counsel to ensure cost-effective and efficient legal support for strategic transactions and projects.Identify and promote enterprise-wide initiatives that enhance the legal function within the supply chain.Serve as a member of the Global Products and Solutions Legal Team, closely partnering with with Johnson Controls' Products Business partners and partnering on broader division, department and company initiatives.Domestic and international travel may be required.What we look for:The successful candidate will be a forward-looking attorney with a strong understanding of supply chain operations and the legal challenges they present. You must demonstrate innovative thinking, the ability to work independently and proactively, and the capacity to challenge the status quo. You should possess the credibility to serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders. Additionally, the candidate must have an insatiable curiosity and the ability to make connections with incomplete information. For this position, the qualified candidate will have a demonstrated interest in complex commercial agreements, procurement, and supporting business success in achieving operational objectives.RequiredMust have a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and be licensed to practice law within the United States.Minimum of 8 years of relevant law firm and in-house experience.Strong legal drafting and writing skills, with a problem-solving orientation and the ability to simplify complex issues.Experience with global supply chain transactions and regulatory compliance.Ability to influence across functions and teams, and work effectively within a matrixed legal team.Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with management at all levels across different regions and develop effective customer management skills.PreferredExperience with product development, manufacturing and industrial supply chain operations.Experience in negotiating contracts related to sourcing, logistics, and supplier management within a global context.Familiarity with trade compliance regulations and international procurement processes.Experience in selecting and managing outside counsel on an international basis.This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
