Position SummaryBASIC FUNCTION: The Sales Manager in the Museum Shops and Visitor Services will work directly with sales staff on the floor, to maximize sales and profitability. Responsible for all necessary daily functions that relate to maximizing the sales and profitability factors of the selling floor, including the monitoring of sales staff to identify all factors with the potential for causing financial losses, proper stocking levels of merchandise and assisting with customer service problems and/or issues .Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Meeting and/or exceeding sales goals. Drives business in the stores by recommending new merchandise, monitoring replenishment and stock levels of existing goods, analyzing merchandising inventory mix including markdown recommendations and by continually seeking opportunities for generating increased shop traffic.Provide excellent customer service to inform visitors on museum services, programs, collections, exhibitions and Museum Shop merchandise.Conducting morning training sessions for sales staff, defining expectations to ensure the highest level of museum visitor experience.Ensure that sales staff accurately operate a computerized point of sale cash register, including the accurate entering of sales information, receiving payment for products and/or services, processing credit card transactions, making correct change, processing refunds and exchanges, and issuing gift cards.Responsible for all daily staff activities including interviewing, hiring, counseling, motivating and monitoring staff performance.Ensures that all sales staff adheres to AIC policies, procedures and departmental practices and policies, and that effective disciplinary measures are carried out on a timely basis.QualificationsRetail sales and visitor services management experience.Ability to drive revenues for museum by training and motivating front line sales staff to actively engage the visitor/customer, anticipate their needs, add on sales and enhance the visitor experience within the museum.Strong analytical skills to maximize the sales and profitability on the retail floor and drive onsite opportunities such as membership, audio tours, other enhancements.Excellent customer service and human relations skills.The Art Institute of Chicago is an equal opportunity, equal access employer fully committed to achieving a diverse and inclusive workplace.Job Type: Full-time
