This is an "entry-level" Sales Development role within the sales
team for creating new opportunities with prospect companies that
are unfamiliar with ifm solutions that can help their business
You will develop valuable sales skills for prospecting and
qualification of sales opportunities at technology companies
throughout the Midwest Region. Qualified opportunity leads are then
passed to an Account Manager to complete the sales process.
ifm works with customers across all industrial automation and
process industries with the goal to always reduce downtime and
waste and to increase efficiencies and outputs.

prospecting as a challenge that energizes them by learning about
new companies and the thrill for uncovering new opportunities. They
enjoy the investigative process of researching the company to learn
about their business model and the key decision makers with whom
they meet. This role is focused on learning and asking the right
questions to understand if an opportunity exists and if ifm has a
potential solution to recommend.
You would leverage ifm's experience in manufacturing and
collaborate with subject matter experts to create a compelling
message to gain interest from a prospect. You would be trained to
effectively leverage communication tools such LinkedIn Sales
Navigator, Vidyard and e-mail to increase success rates. Discovery
meetings are conducted over phone and virtually using MS Teams to
facilitate the initial interview and share valuable content from
You need to be resilient and understand that rejection is a natural
occurrence when people are unaware of your intent to help them save
time and resources when they work with us. You are able to combine
this resilience with empathy to listen and understand the prospects
challenge and concept for an ideal solution.
Organization and time management skills are crucial for success in
this role. Creating new opportunity leads requires a systematic
process for outreach over a period of time. You would successfully
manage high volume outbound sales activity with daily inbound lead
evaluation to qualify high potential opportunities for the sales
team. A high sense of urgency combined with self-discipline is
required for high success in this role.
You would report to the Midwest Sales Team Leader in this role. The
region consists of a broad range of industries which include
automotive, steel, food/beverage, water treatment, plastics and
building materials. Sales Development Reps who are fully trained,
successful at generating project opportunities are eligible for
promotion to Sales Engineer within two years.
- 0 to 2 years of professional sales or industrial automation
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technical or Business
- Desire to work in a collaborative office environment to learn
from others and develop skills at a faster pace.
- Some travel to local manufacturing plants will be required to
improve industry knowledge and ifm sales process.
