years as a cardiac sonographer required. License: American Registry
of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular
Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac
ultrasound. Certifications: Required Certifications & Licensure: -
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the
Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is
required. - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) from
ARDMS within 12 months of start or Registered Cardiac Sonographer
(RCS) from CCI within 12 months of start. Must-Have: - Completion
of a two-year Allied Health degree. - Successful completion of a
12-month CAAHEP approved School of Ultrasound Technology or
Cardiovascular Technology or equivalent education. Description: The
Echocardiographer is responsible for performing transthoracic
echocardiograms. This position involves setting up and assisting
with transesophageal echocardiograms. Under the direction of a
trained echocardiographer, the role includes setting up and
performing exercise and Dobutamine stress echocardiograms to the
standards set forth by the American Society of Echocardiography.
This individual demonstrates increasing competency in delivering
care to a primarily adult population. Other duties may be assigned
as needed. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency by performing
routine and emergency echocardiograms. This includes but is not
limited to 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, Doppler, and
transesophageal echocardiograms as requested by a physician and in
accordance with standard practices. The echocardiographer provides
echocardiography services at all necessary locations. This may
involve working variable shifts, weekends, and providing emergent
call coverage as scheduled. Operating equipment necessary to
perform all required procedures is essential. The echocardiographer
must obtain optimal images utilizing ancillary devices such as
selected transducers, digital networking systems, and offline
analysis systems. Recognition of basic cardiac pathology is
required. The individual analyzes patient medical records to obtain
a history of symptoms and necessary information for the performance
of diagnostic procedures. Preliminary reports must be prepared for
review and interpretation by a cardiologist, including a comparison
of previous studies. Equipment maintenance in working order is
necessary, including making minor adjustments and repairs. Routine
cleaning and preventive maintenance should be performed regularly.
Any equipment malfunctions should be reported to the echo lab
manager. The echocardiographer must clean and sterilize TEE probes
and perform TEE probe leakage testing according to department
policy and procedures. Maintaining a clean and orderly patient care
environment is essential. Participation in quality improvement
activities is expected. This includes evaluating procedure results
for technical quality and accuracy and maintaining appropriate
logs, files, and records. Reviewing departmental performance in
relation to established goals and implementing changes to effect
outcomes is part of the role. Pre- and post-procedure patient
instruction is necessary. The echocardiographer must utilize
ultrasound contrast according to ASE guidelines and departmental
policy, including understanding and explaining potential side
